EG has become my favorite rocket but i have notice that in the few games i have seen that he never goes to the post. Does he have any post game when ever i check the stats he rarely goes to the line. All I see him do is take jump shots and three. i haven't seen him use any spin moves or take anyone off the dribble. I don't expect any Iverson moves but i have seen bigs guys like Charles Barkley and KT take people off the dribble. I haven't seen many game so for those off ya'll who have seen many of the game tell me what you think.
EG has potential to be a good poster, but right now he doesn't got it. The couple of times he tried to post, he got blocked by Kirilenko (I really HATE that guy for some reason). Also, he simply isn't strong enough. He needs to put on some major weight. Give it a couple of seasons, he will kill ALL. EDDIE!! EDDIE!! EDDIE!!
He has to bulk-up and develop his post game and that will take time...he got blocked a couple of times tonight on post up moves- you can't telegraph your shot in the NBA or you will get blocked.
Whenever Griffin gets the ball outside the 3 points arc he either shoots, or passes. I've never seen him but the ball on the floor and drive to the basket.
He has posted up at times this year and scored successfully. I think the Rockets should have him post up more often to help him develop it. But Rudy does not like to have anyone post up, he chooses to clear out the lane so guys can drive. Griffin can't be expected to score everynight because he is the 4th scoring option behind Francis, Mobley, and Thomas. And everyone knows the Rockets like to run iso's on offense, so Griffin will not get too many opportunities.
Until EG learns more post moves than just the turnaround jumper that he apparently LOVES, I don't really want him posting up a lot. Against smaller opponents, it is successful, because it is basically impossible to block, but against people his size, it rarely works. He never does anything else, so the opponent learns to just sit and wait for it, and then block it. Kirilenko did last night, many other players have done it before. I have no doubt that EG can be a great post up threat, eventually. But right now, his post up game seems very limited, and I can see why Rudy does not tell him (I assume) to go into the low post more often.
Rudy T thinks he understands mismatches but doesn't understand squat. Last night they had Padgett guarding Griffin. Now you can't tell me that Scott Padgett can cover Griffin in the post. I mean if you want the big man to come out to the three point line then you need to make sure a big man covers Griffin. If they have a small guy covering Griffin, thow it into the post. Those small guys want to come out and not leave Griffin open in the 3 pt line. I just get so mad when Rudy doesn't run the same plays he runs of KT when Griffin is playing the 4.
KT has an assortment of post moves. He can do the spin, he can drive past his man, and besides that, he is quite quick. He has what is probably the best footwork on the whole team. He is FAR from a one dimensional post up player. Now, what is this about my crazy?
Your right. I'm just pissed because I saw Padgett guarding Griffin without a sniff of a post... How is he suppose to free up from the small guys they keep putting on him? Those small guys take away his 3pt threat.
EG and Robert Horry's game a similar. Rob couldn't put the ball on the floor and still struggles today. However, EG has the opportunity by working with Francis, Mobley, and the Harleem Globetrotter backup point Moochie Norris to improve his skill. Look how much KG skills have improved over the years.
If Griffin had post up moves like Kenny he would dominate and easily win the Rookie of the Year Award. I heard that when Kenny played at New Mexico he didn't have good low post moves, so hopefully Griffin will develope into a complete big man.
I think that Eddie will eventually develop a post up game. We keep forgetting that this kid is still only 19 years old, and has a lot to learn. In 2-3 years I really think that he is going to be a star type of player. I just wish the dude would come out of his shell a little...... Seems like he is depressed or something.
I remember always cringing when KT had the ball in the post. He would try that spin move and either 1) have it stripped or 2) not finish. We used to keep track of how many non-finishes he had every game. This year is a whole different story. The guy can finish that post spin move and any off the dribble drive to the hoop. Sso, it has take 3-4 years of NBA balling to master the move. Opponents now cringe when he has the ball in the post because of his quickness. EG will eventually figure out his basic move too. We have seen flashes with the turn around Garnett/Duncan style backboard jumper from 10 feet. Now, he just has to learn not to telegraph and use his height to leverage and pin his man. A baby hook might be the answer!
I like your thinking, montgo. And I think it is highly likely that Griffin, by next season, might develop a post move finishing in a baby hook. I hvae seen him actually make a couple baby hooks this season already off of offensive rebounds or just from good passes, but he never shot them as a result of a post move. But the couple that I have seen him shoot looked pretty smooth and he hit them. I tell ya, this kids future is so bright, you gotta wear shades.
