I was listening to the talk show on 610 last night & one caller asked if the Rockets would be interested in trading Griffin for Tony Parker? The question was asked, because it appears that San Antonio is the front runner in the Jason Kidd sweepstakes & they won't have a real need for Parker at the point. With Robinson retiring, they'll obviously need some big men.

Now, this would be an off season trade, since San Antonio is in the playoff chase. Griffin for Parker won't work straight up, so I've thrown together a trade that I like, but it might not be acceptable by San Antonio. The bottom line is: Would you trade Griffin for Parker in some package?

Houston sends Griffin/Nachbar/Maddox to San Antonio.

San Antonio sends Parker/Bowen to Houston.

If the Spurs sign Kidd, they could bring Maddox along slowly for the future. They'd get an athletic, young, shot blocking PF in Griffin, that can hit the 3 pt'r. Thus, allowing Duncan to roam freely under the basket. They'd also get a young SF that can, reportedly, shoot the lights out.

Houston gets a true PG & a solid backup SF for Posey. With Rice's retirement or trade, we'd have a nice one-two punch at SF.

Just for grins, I decided to include a 3rd team in the trade. How about this trade? :D

    Houston sends Mobley/Moochie to Memphis.
Houston sends Griffin/Nachbar/Maddox to San Antonio.

    Memphis sends Swift/Battier/Knight to Houston.

San Antonio sends Parker to Houston.
San Antonio sends Bowen to Memphis.

    Our new lineup would be:

    C: Ming/Cato
    PF: Swift/Taylor/T-Mo
    SF: Posey/Battier/T-Mo
    SG: Francis/Battier/Hawkins
    PG: Parker/Knight

Can I dream with the best of them, or what? :D

Now, back to the original question. Would you trade Griffin for Parker/fill-ins?

If we are really gonna trade for a PG, I would prefer Jamal Tinsley (of course Jason Kidd would be the best but it's not gonna happen). He has mad handle and is a pretty good passer. If Indiana pursue Gary Payton as rumoured, we might have a chance.

Tinsley is tha shiznit as far as pg skillz go. He gots 2 second ahead eyes when it come to passing and 2 extra arms when it come to handles.

What would it take to get him & would the Rockets pay the price?

Didn't it say before that Indiana would like Cato? If (a very big if) Indiana trade for Gary Payton, I think they might let Tinsley go.

Tinsley's a pass first PG. His ball handling and passing are pretty good. He can't shoot to save his life though, according to my Indiana friend.

The first trade is no good, because it leaves the Rox with real trouble at PF. The second one is a little better, but I don't think either one really would improve the team much, if at all.

Have you considered what the Spurs lineup would be?

Knowing ahead of time that Tinsley can't shoot, can you imagine how upset we as Rockets fans would be when the other teams packed the paint around Yao Ming and dared Tinsley to fire away?

I believe it would be something like:

    C: Duncan/Willis/Bateer
    PF: Griffin/Rose
    SF: Jackson/Nachbar/Ferry
    SG: Ginobili/Smith or Kerr
    PG: Kidd/Maddox

This doesn't include any additional FA's they might sign or trade for.

Tinsley would deliver it to Steve if Yao drew the double, or drop it off to a cutter. He wouldn't jack some crazy bullsh^%, with 3 sec. on the clock. Tins would be a super backcourt mate for Steve at 2.

I prefer a big, distributing defender at 2 and SF still at one, though, of course, in keeping with my general theorem - the pg is evolutionarily irrelevant. I'd still look for a pf. But ,I'd never look down my nose at Tins! I'd find a way to move trash to make room for him.

Trading Griff for Parker would leave a big ass hole at the four. If you think that position is cosing us games right now.....

And you know Rudy will start running with Parker, Francis and Cuttino. That team would score, but I hate the defense of a three guard lineup.

And no thanks to Jamal Tinsley either. That fool probably cant even make layups on a consistent basis let alone actually shooting from the outside.

We need shooters who can open up the lane for Francis and Cuttino or prevent double teaming of Ming.

Man, I'd love to add Tinsley, but his salary is so small that it would be hard to trade for him, because other than Tinsley, there's no one on that team they would trade who I'd like.

I like Parker but wouldn't trade Griffin for him. Tinsley is a great passer but can't shoot well. I would be tempted to add him to the team but if Indiana gives him up they won't have a point guard.
Even if Payton does go over to them how many years can he give them?

I also seriously doubt that the Spurs would be willing to trade Griffin for Parker.Kidd is highly unlikely to be moved from the Nets this year and it's possible that he might not end up with the Spurs next year either.

Imagine how good the Spurs could be if Griffin panned out, even to a small degree. A 15 ppg, 8-9 rpg guy with Eddie's shotblocking instincts standing next to Tim Duncan would be scary. 1999 all over again. Jesus is a pretty good PG, but the Spurs would be the Texas power if Duncan stays and Griffin, Ginobilli, and Jackson all pan out. And Jason Kidd???

And you want to throw in our SF of the future? A sweet-shooting, athletic, and long swingman would be perfect for the Spurs.

That trade with the Warriors would decrease our scoring at the 4 which is inconsistant right now but can get better as Griffin improves and Taylor gets fit.
