The problem is, is that the Rockets are paying NOW for their fugality with Taylor and Cato and Norris. Because THEN they were free wheeling and overspent for role players Les is not willing to go over the LT NOW to sign players. And the LT is about to become extinct. So we dont sign Posey/Thomas and let them walk for nothing (loss of talent). The Rockets counter act this loss of talent with faith in their draft picks, picks that cost a lot less. Compounded to our "spend conscious" situation is the fact that our cheap draft picks are not producing: Griffin, Morris, Nachbar. So the players that we are COUNTING on to complete our roster (since we can't obtain FAs) are not working out. And two of them are completely off the roster with the other one barely getting ANY playing time. We are stuck. We have no young players to build up the roster and we have no solid role players to compliment our roster (sans Jim Jackson). We just have a few players that might be solid stars in Yao and Francis and overpaid role players. Not a great situation. Hindsight is 20/20...we blew some opportunities in FA and in the draft but at the same token if we had capitalized on some things we might not have been able to get Yao. That is ALL water under the bridge. I don't like to play the WHAT IF game. From where I sit, right now we need to see what we can do to dump some of our bad contracts (to start over in FA) OR try to obtain more talented players even if it means being in the LT threshold (in theory in slightly compounds the salary cap problem, but at least we have talent working FOR us). And the LT threshold that wont last much longer! But we have to do one or the other. Just staying pat is just prolonging the problem. If you are building with Yao and Francis...the Rockets need to really decide what they are going to do with Taylor, Cato and Mobley.
