He can't even run up and down the court. Waste of money. He would get killed if he played on a fast paced team.

on a minimum salary, oden will go to a contender and only a contender, anyone else needs to pay more

Do we really need an injury riddled center after Yao? it was fine with Yao because healthy Yao= contender... admittedly he would be a good backup for Asik IF he was healthy././

If no team has signed him yet, and a team like the Miami Heat who are still trying to breathe life into the corpse of Juwan Howard hasn't signed him yet, Im pretty sure there are good reasons for not doing so.

Right now assuming the Rockets bring back the core group, + 1 free agent, + 2 rookie (1 being Aldemir), the roster will be at around 13. After Royce White is cut, they could be down to 12. Morey will most likely have 1 or 2 roster spots to try out the next Patrick Beverley, or Chuck Hayes.

However, given the depth issues they are looking to have at the 1, 2, and 3 spot you are almost certainly going to need those last few roster spots for PG, and wing depth. Not sure the Rockets would be the best place for Oden to get any minutes, and burn a roster spot on.

Just quickly, how does Royce getting cut affect the cap? Does it just get wiped off?

    Roster size.

And no it doesn't his salary is fully guaranteed. They can use what they call a "stretch provision" to lighten the load for next year, but it still would be split amongst the next few seasons. More than likely what you will see the Rockets do is either waive him, and eat the cost for next year, or try and trade him, and pay the other team his salary so it doesn't hurt their cap situation.

Thats the main reason why he's still on the team and hasn't been cut yet. There is still a chance after the decline the team option for after next year that they could then trade him to a team taking a "no risk" gamble on him, and the Rockets could save the cap space.

let's guess who would stay on the court longer among deke, yao from retirement, or oden from injury if somehow they all came back.

    i have this order,

    deke,
    yao,
    oden

Yeah, the sarcasm for it working out well was obvious, but the fact that they way overpaid for such a risk makes the situation totally different.

A 22 year old who had a 23.1 PER in 21 starts before he went down with the injury, he is now 25 and has taken two seasons off. A 0.01 percent chance that he returns to health would be worth the risk to quite a number of teams. Big men like Greg Oden are few and far between. As unpolished as he was, his rebounding and rim protection was FREAKISH.

Absolutely, would be a great backup C for Asik and gain a lot from working with McHale. Plus the team is young and spotlight small.

Could be a very good fit. Good big men are rare, so if the guy can even end up being a 10/10/2 guy that would be a huge breakthrough and not that unlikely.

He has apparently been working hard on his fitness in the time he's been away. IIRC he could have practiced with a team this season but chose to spend more time improving his fitness and healing up.

I wish Greg Oden the best in life but the Rockets would be better off signing this guy at the lowest amount of money. The guy's walking disastrous injury waiting to happen.

Oden is that good talent wise that teams still discuss his possible return.

Even before injury Oden wasn't that good in anything other then being big (pun unintended).

He wasn't a great scoring or defensive option, although he showed signs of developing into either due to athleticism, as a pro or even a number one pick he never really excelled at anything. Frankly, I wouldn't bother especially after seeing poor Brandon Roy try his failed come back.

Bowie 2 can try out elsewhere.

Are you joking? Oden was a defensive/rebounding monster in his limited playing time. In that short span of games he played before his final injury against us, he was looking worthy of that #1 selection.
