OK, I promise, last music thread for a while- some wanted a more even poll, there, that's what I could come up with. Really, this is tough. I have no idea who I'd choose. If I had to decide between Dookie and the Blue Album, I'd pick Blue, but I have a few more favorite songs from G.D. than Weezer.

Vote? Green Day, with some regret.

Weezer because although their new music sucks too, they don't look like 40 year old emo kids.

I think you said it, Blue might be the best album from either of the two, but Greenday has better music overall...

I had to "learn" both these groups because I'm primarily a 70s-80s guy (Zeppelin, U2, etc.). So, I have a question about both:

    1. Why is there such a gap between popularity in Dookie and American Idiot? Were their CDs that much worse? (I only have Dookie, American, and 21st Century- bought Nimrod but haven't listened to it yet).

    2. Why do a handful of Weezer fans think everything beyond Pinkerton is mediocre? They sound good to me (I have everything through the Red CD).

This is pretty tough. Green Day is slightly (just slightly) underrated, while I think Weezer is slightly (just slightly) overrated. I think it's bascially a tie, but I give my vote to these guys based on their Simpsons appearance:

OK I admit it....Greenday's a guilty pleasure of mine. They're also an excellent live show. And, next to ABBA, my daughter's favourite music.

Incredibly, I cannot vote on this. I have albums by both artists but have never really listened to them. If I was forced to vote, I would vote for Green Day simply because I have listened to "Dookie" more than once. I keep telling myself to try Weezer but just haven't gotten around to doing it.

For me its easy - Weezer by a mile. Never could stand Green Day. To me they just sounded like a rehash of the 80's power-pop stuff like The Descendants, but not as good. When Weezer came out, their sound was a little more fresh to me. To this day, I'll take new Weezer over any Green Day..

    Weezer

Blue has so many classic songs - No one else. Buddy Holly. My Name is Jonas. In the Garage. The World Has Turned And Left Me Here. The Sweater Song. Say it Ain't So

Pinkerton was really good too. It's hard to match greatness I suppose.

Not all of their newer music is junk..

I liked the Red Album, but Weezer's last two albums have been total garbage.

Can't stand Green Day's vocals. They sound awful. Weezer is in my all-time top 10 and they pretty much haven't produced a bad song.

    Weezer, but just barely

Green Day was my favorite band, but then they got political, which i hate.

The Blue Album and Dookie are in my all time top 10, but Weezer has smoked Green day in this decade.

I'd take Weezer, I actually like the last 2 albums (Unspoken off Hurley is my favorite at the moment), not as good as their earlier work and they've been pumping out albums like crazy the past 10 years.

One underrated song from the 2000's?
