Thought I would change from the usual "who should the Rockets draft", and "who should we trade" [IMG] What is everyones opinion on the "GREATEST DUNK EVER"?

Mine has to be Dominique Wilkins. In a playoff game against the celtics at the boston garden, Doc Rivers, I think, took an outside shot and missed, the ball bounced high in the air, Wilkins came from out of nowhere and slammed over McHale and Parrish. Awesome dunk!!!!

Honorable mention: Jordan, against bullets, steals pass at halfcourt, only man back, Manute Bol, all 7'7" 120lbs of him. Jordan just went right over him.

Tom Chambers slamming on someone. I think from the Knicks. I cant remember who it was on though. But Tom's knees were even with the guys face and he seemed to leap over the guy.. been a long time since I have seen that dunk, but if my memory is correct it was an awesome dunk.

    *Doctor J over Michael Cooper

    *KJ over Hakeem

*John Starks over somebody...can't remember who.

Best for the Rockets this year...Francis in Jahidi White's grill and...believe it or not, Tony Massenburg had one in someones face early this season.

Turbo doing his unassisted cartwheel slam (no trapoline).

Sure he travels, but that one always shocks me everytime I see it.

The dunk you are referring to (Tom Chambers) was over MArk Jackson, and they are immortalizing it in statue in front of America West. That is my vote for #1. Number 2 would probably be KJ over the Dream. #3 is Pippen over Ewing in 1994, when Pippen stood over Ewing talking sh*t.

Old School, nice thoughts. I had forgotton the open court flying slam by the Doc when Cooper was closing in. That would be my #1 too. The Starks and KJ slams were pretty spectacular because they were in traffic, plus with KJ's it was totally unexpected because I don't remember any other slam he has done and the best defender to play the game was right there.

Also, Nique and Kemp had so many spectacular dunks it is hard to keep them strait. Jordan's slam againt Portland in the championship series where he looked like he was going to finger role but just kept rising in the air and said "what they hey I am so far above the rim why don't I just slam it now" was awefully tough as well. Finally, Clyde did a similar move in slamming over Rodney McCray (I think) in the NCAA semi-finals around 1982 or so--in "The Game Played Above the Rim" or billed something like that. Another spectacular dunk was by James Worthy, though it was spectacular more in the context of the whole play. Worthy got the ball in the low block against Bird facing away from the basket at about 10 feet, Bird blinked, and Worthy whirled around him and dunked it about before Bird could even turn around and watch it go through the hole. Finally the last two quick to come to my mind are Chris Webber & Harold Arceneaux's coast-to-coast runs and flying slams in the NCAA's. Like the Worthy play, these were great dunks finishing a series of plays made by individual.

    Dude,
The dunk you are referring to is Chambers against the Knicks, on Mark Jackson, and his knees are slamming Jackson in the jaw. I have the poster, it is beauty!

Anyway, my favorite dunk of all time....

MJ, back in 88 I think, was playing the Jazz. He dunked on Stockton, and a fan yelled at him to dunk on someone his own size. Well, the next trip down, MJ dunked on 7'4" Mel Turpin. He basically leaped OVER Turpin and scissored his legs in order to glide over him. Dunked all over him. When MJ finally landed, he asked the same fan, "Was he big enough?"

    Greatness!!!

David Wood on the Admiral, anybody? Not the best I've ever seen, but definitely the most memorable.

Wow! I remember most of these dunks and all are worthy. But for me, Tom Chambers dunk over Mark Jackson is #1.

Turpin was 6'11", but I remember that dunk and Jordan's response. That was incredible. I miss MJ... [IMG]

I can't believe it!! How could any of us forget Chocolate Thunder, Darryl Dawkins, and his two backboard smashing dunks??!!! It was the most talked about dunk for weeks.

While we're on the subject of dunks...I'd have to say my all time favorite dunker was Darrell "Dr Dunkenstien" Griffith while with the Doctors Of Dunk, the University of Lousiville. He was the first player I saw do a 360 dunk. My favorite of his was off on an ally-oop, he caught it in the air with his back to the basket and slammed it without looking at the rim...classic.

that dunk over Turpin was cool, but i will never forget when MJ faked out Starks and Oakley, went down the baseline, dunked over Ewing, and then backpeddled down the court giving Ewing this look like, "What were u thinking?!?!"

    Kagy,

The Horry dunk was over Oakley in the 3rd period on an inbounds play under the Rockets basket.

I watched the tape during the losing streak.

    Nice uni's and fond memories.

    DaDakota

PS The Greatest DUNK hands down was me going over my fraternity brothers and slamming it home between 2 taller guys to win the game....ok so it was a 9 foot goal...it sure felt good.

My favorite all time dunk was a Dominique Wilkins dunk over Kevin McHale in a regular season game. Nique took off for the two handed dunk and McHale "jumped" to block it. Nique caught McHale on his hip and pulled the ball further behind his head. When McHale started to descend, Nique was still going up [IMG] Nique slammed it home over a stunned McHale [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] I found it amazing that Nique could carry that big whale on his hip all the way to the hoop.

As a side note, no foul was called on McHale. The refs must have felt sorry for the guy.

My second fav dunk was one of the dunks Spud Web did to win the Slam Dunk competition. He bounced the ball off the floor off the glass, and went up got it and dunked it, with plenty of room to spare. Absolutely, positively sick and wrong for a 5'6" guy to do that.

How about Robert Horry's dunk to open Game 7 against the Knicks in 1994? Took a pass, cut down the lane, and just hammered one down on Patrick Ewing's ass, or his face (I couldn't tell which it was, they look pretty much the same).

He was fouled, too-- but no call was made.

The place was going nuts when that happened.

....let's just tighten up the wording here...

Like I said before, the greatest dunk/posterizing ever in my mind would have to be.....
Even though i don't like him no more i have to go with Scottie Quitten's dunk in 94 in Patrick Ewing's face, he took off and Pat was waiting for him but, Quitten Elevated and threw it down, then Let Pat know about it.

The thing that seperates this dunk from others is that you could see it coming where as other posterizings you can't the bulls, were running the break and Ewing new Quitten was going to get it and was ready and waiting but Quitten Elevated and BOOOM! Posterized, but that wasn't it Quitten Let Monkey face no about it.

I hate Quitten now but i i will never take that SLAMADAMONTH Poster off my wall.

Incorrect, Dakota-- the first basket we scored in that game was off an Horry dunk, over Ewing. That's the one I'm referring to.

I don't doubt there was a great one in the third quarter too-- I just haven't watched that much of the tape in a long time. I didn't tape out the commercials when I recorded it.

And I'm not a patient man.

    Kagy,

Well, watch the beginning of the 3rd quarter because it was a MONSTER slam, and HORRY was yelling in Oakley's face.

    Poetry !
