Hey guys another computer question. I havce slowly accumulated parts neccesary to build my comp. Here goes Abit kn8 motherboard ( pci- express) amd athlon 64 3700 cpu Raidmax sagitta case with 450 power supply 250 gig hd What graphics card should I use with my set up. I want to watch and record tv if I can ? ( ati Radeon X1300 will that work for my graphic needs ? ) If i cant do that for a reasonable price then whats the next best card. What type of memory should I get ?
an x1300 AIW would probably do the trick but depending on what you want to do with the card (ie video games) you may want an x1800 AIW. personally if u can afford it, get a 7800gt and then a dedicated capture card, maybe a fusion lite or a mdp-1xx card
go with at least a gig for RAM. (recommend 2 gigs, if your gonna be capturing videos and playing games)
The Yoyo speaks the truth. The AIW is the jack of all trades but master of none. If you're doing some serious TV capturing, then spend the extra 40 on a dedicated capture card. ATI's solutions (TV wonder, TVWonder Pro, AIW) are mediocre at best.
Hauppage is real good... ..especially when your using a program like beyondtv (which is based in houston)
I'd go with a separate video capture tool (I used to use a Canopus ADV). But with that being said, I think R2K uses an AIW, doesn't he? If so, and that quality is good enough for you, then an AIW is more than enough. If you're a heavy gamer, I'd definitely get a separate gaming card/capture card. Is your KN8 an SLI mobo or the standard KN8? Depending on the type of video editing you do, you may quickly find that 250g gigs isn't enough. I like to capture DV straight to the hard drive and that uses up 13 gigs/hour. If you capture MPEG/DivX to the drive, it'll be a lot less space. If you're heavy into gaming a 7800 GT or GTX is a great, albeit expensive, card. By "what type of memory" if you mean what brand, you can be safe if you get Crucial. You can get cheaper if you want, but people run into issues running crappy cheap memory in Athlon64-based-chipset mobos. Don't skimp if you can avoid it. Crucial, OCZ, Mushkin, etc. all make good memory. The KN8 uses DDR 400 RAM. Buy from NewEgg.com or from ZipZoomFly.com. I've had to RMA a couple of things to NewEgg.com in the past, and they've always responded quickly - a great company.
