I give him a C because he really didn't do much this season without our two superstars in the lineup. Then again he is limited to what he could have done with such limited talent on our roster.
A I pegged this team for about 30 wins. And they're going to be around .500 this season. To me that's kudos for the coach. Not to mention he managed to get Landry enough stats to flip him for Kevin Martin. And developed Brooks/Lowry game quite a bit too. To me, Adelman has done everything a Rockets fan could hope for at the beginning of the season. If that doesn't deserve an A, I don't know what should.
Rick Adelman deserves a A-. He has done a wonderful job pulling together what has so far been a winning season when two perennial all stars went out with extended injuries and lost a significant member of our team from last year in Ron Artest. We even have a chance to make the playoffs. We can't hold the past two games against him because we are dealing with new personnel coming into his system. Some practices together are going to do a world of good. If this team can start clicking together soon, we could make a deep run in the playoffs. I believe that, for the most part, Adelman handled the Tracy McGrady situation very well in holding him out of games initially to give him ample time for recovery. I am placing some of the blame for McGrady leaving the team early on him and mostly on McGrady which explains the slight lowering of Adelman's overall grade. If anyone is disappointed with the season, it must be due to the success we had in the playoffs against the Lakers and how we started the season so well out of the gate. This is a good result for this season. Many prognosticators had us pegged as bottom dwellers and we're in the middle of the pack. With this team as is, we could just be one piece away from going over the top and that piece could very well be 7'6" and coming back next season. So cheer up, folks. The future looks pretty good.
I give rick a A-. We should have not gone into the season with out having three point guards. When you only have 2 point guards on your team your a injury away from being S.O.L. if one of your guys suffers a injury. As much as like JTs game I think we would have been better off drafting a point guard who could at least be on the roster this year. Luil is at least 2 years away from being able play on a nba team because of contract.
Has to be a B+(89) Has to deal with Yao's yearly injury, T-Wacks' crying and new players....and he's still around .500. Honestly, I was expecting 35 wins this year. We could very well win between 40 or 44 games.
I originally voted C but after thinking about it B sounds about right. I wish C-Bud would be given more time. Battier and Ariza shouldn't be on the floor together much if at all. IMHO
Tough question. He has done pretty solid with very little and got us through a TOUGH early season schedule. On the other hand we've taken a nasty dip defensively (even considering Yao is out) and IMO lost our identity. We completely lost our identity, the very thing that made us so tough to beat. Adelman's coaching this season may be the opposite of Shane Battier's "tangible" thing. On paper Adelman is putting up admirable numbers but where are the tangibles? Then again, its probably not his fault and what can you really expect?
with a healthy lineup, we should be 5th-6th seed. but with RA, who knows, we could easily be 3rd, 4th seed and could surprise some people.
Other than McGrady which he totally bungled he has done a pretty good job. Basically, that's the only thing he really screwed up. There are other things but those are nowhere near as big to screw up. I would give him a B-. This can raise itself higher if he makes the playoffs to an A or drop to about a C if this team starts to majorly tank.
I gave him a D+, for below average. I think the team could have gotten a few more wins with T-Mac, though even if that was not true, there is no reason a player should be taken away from the team. The only thing Tracy did wrong this season was complain for playing time, which I do not blame any player for doing. But aside from that, during preseason, I thought the team would win 45 games. They are slightly below that pace. Like a lot of you have said, Budinger should have more minutes over Battier or Ariza. And the starting lineup should have been altered somehow to avoid Battier and Hayes together, along with Ariza. So when you add it all up, I give him a D+ for below average. They have performed less than expected. Things could have been worse. If they can get to 45 wins, it moves up to a C, and if they make playoffs it is a B. I reserve the grade of A for getting to the 2nd round. If they fall much below .500 I think that is an F. Still, I like Adelman enough to know that there is no better coach out there. He knows how to coach.
Gave him a "B," was working on an "A" during the first part of the season, but his rotations/substitution patterns are a "D" at best. Fans have complained about that part of his coaching his entire career, now I know why.
I give him an F. Our good start was more a testament to Landry's hard work than anything Adelman did. Even a "D" quality coach would have reigned in Ariza and made more appropriate substitutions. In fact, I bet half the people on this forum could do rotations better. Add that to him letting his ego affect the team off the court by forcing us to trade our MVP shooting guard at 10 cents on the dollar and he's a pretty crappy coach. He's been here for years and we've never really seen the "system" that was supposed to make us a good offensive team materialize.
but as of now, with the players we've got, we still can't beat the lakers, nuggets, dallas, phoenix, cleveland, orlando, atlanta, boston in a 7 game series IMO.
He couldn't leave his ego at the door, and completely mismanaged the McGrady situation by forcing Mac to rot on the bench - Rick could've showcased McGrady prior to the trade deadline. He also makes questionable decisions concerning the rotation. Battier's day has passed, and he's incapable of consistently contributing. Budinger deserves much more PT - he's more athletic, younger, can shoot the three ball and finish at the rim, and he has a high basketball IQ, yet Rick continually opts for the cold-shooting, clumsy ways of Trevor Ariza and the washed up Battier. He prefers older, more experienced players, and doesn't really allow his young talent to develop to the fullest extent. Budinger, and to a lesser degree, Jordan Hill, need to be seeing the floor this season in preparation for a title run next year.
