Would it be worth going after him? He's a bit bigger than Scula, so could be a good backup center for Yao.

If we had an interest in -- or a prayer of acquiring -- Drew Gooden, the player to waive is Chuck Hayes, not El Skol. However, we don't have any cap space to work with so it's academic anyway.

    Don't need him.

We have Mutumbo, Hayes, Landry, Scola, how many minutes would he get?

Also I think Adelman undervalues Hayes, Hayes comes in at times and completely shuts down a post player. Mutumbo can still play but we don't play them...

In short, i'd rather see Mutumbo and Hayes play over Gooden. Also Scola and Landry IMO are better than Gooden. So I don't think we should sign him.

I wasnt saying he would take minutes from Scula, rather Scula would have less of a center role when Yao went out.

Morey is not getting him. But the best of signing him would be the Spurs don't signing him. He's going to help them.

Gooden sucks and has one of the lowest BBall IQs in the entire league.

Gooden has faded away like Bonzi Wells. No need for him. Let's take a look at Joe Smith!

He's most likely headed to the Cavs..

Gooden would be an improvement as a backup to Scola and Yao because he is a solid rebounder and has an above average shooting touch.

It is true he is not one of the sharpest knives in the box, but Gooden is tall, strong, athletic and skilled, i.e. a vast improvement over the more lovable Hayes. Again, this observation is more academic than practical because of the salary cap.

Hayes is strong and skilled, although maybe not as athletic. I can promise you, though, that in specific situations Hayes has a much bigger effect on the game than Gooden ever would.

    Also did you forget Landry?

Yeah and anyways...Gooden brings rebounds and points in the paint.

Things that Scola and Landry both do very well.

Gooden isn't going to bring any thing we don't currently have, and if he takes away minutes from Hayes then that's negative. Hayes has a pretty good impact on the game, he can't do much offensively but during that streak no one talked about how he shut down guys like Dirk and Aldridge when we needed him. I hope Adelman still has plans to use Hayes. We may need him on Bosh, Hayes does a good job of stopping these finesse post guys.

Of course not -- unless you were thinking about suggesting waiving Landry instead of Hayes. Of course not, that's why Landry and Deke are not in the discussion. Again, this whole discussion is not based in reality because of cap and competitive (the Spurs have the inside track) constraints.

Stromile Swift, another intellectual underachiever, would also fit well into Adelman's system as long as he hasn't lost his jets. I've not kept up with him since he went to New Jersey.

Hayes is strong. Hayes is a quicker rebounder. Hayes is ... uh, I've run out of pluses and I don't want to dwell on his minuses because I like him as a player. However, if I take off the rose colored glasses worn by most of us Rockets fans, improving the strength of the team should always be our first priority.

im down for gooden. rebounding machine and hustles. it cant hurt to have another young active body on the team.

i think he would be a good addition esp. if we can take him away from the spurs.

    Hmmm interesting

I'd be open to getting Gooden, although he's been injured a lot this season he's on my fantasty team and given me some MONSTER rebound games. Very active

Dream on, the league has already matched Gooden with Cavs, Lakers, or Celtics.

    What about Skulla?:D

I really hope we could upgrade the center position because if Landry or Scola goes down with injuries,we have a rotation problem or matchup problem.Brent will rotate in the void that one rocket causes, and Brent is a good shooter, but not a decent defender on anybody in that spot.If so,Gooden is a good upgrade for us despite he's been chasing by the Spurs.

ERRRR! Wrong!! try again.....gooden has not faded, he's been injured. when not injured he's pretty much averaged a double double. He's definitely still a starter in this league.

ERRRRR! you sir, are wrong as well.

If we weren't loaded at PF he'd be a great pickup, unfortunately we have no room for him and i believe he's still has a lingering groin innjury, so he's not ready to play right now.
