Alright, we're trying to come up with some good work bonuses for our company.

Things like cash, trips, and the like.

So, what are some of the better bonuses y'all have received or seen?

We're thinking about something worth $3,000, but think cash sounds cold, especially since we're already paying them a commission. ie. Having your payout go from 5% to 6% doesn't sound that exciting, although we'll probably give that option, as well.

Something like a trip somewhere or, heck, I don't know.

    Anyone have some ideas?

Menage a'Trois with Jessica Alba and Eve Longoria.

That'll run you at least 3 grand!

    ;) :D

For the ladies....same with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, perhaps?

    I wish I could get a 3000 dollar bonus.

Anyway, I would take the money. It gives the person the flexibility to do whatever they want.

If you don't want it to seem cold, put the 3000 in a Hallmark card.

We'll have that option, but that has to be 1099'd, while a gift doesn't.

Fantastic idea. After talking to the guys here, how does a Phillip's Ambulight sound?

Keep the ideas coming. We're going to do this once a month.

I used to be a floating bank teller for a bank that had a branch in the BMC Software building. I worked there for two weeks, one of them being the week they got their bonuses. This was in '98 right before the Tech Bubble Bust. Those guys received some unbelievable bonuses.

Definitely cash. I work at a company where we get comission and the occasional bonus. Give them the option to do what they want with the cash. Don't tie them to a trip they may not want to take.

    Cash is never cold.

After they close a big deal send a prostitute over to their house. That's what Gordon Gecko would do.

Give cash it will be the final thing that everyone likes.. if you give a trip or a TV, who says everyone will want that.. cash may not sound that great on a sign or in your head, but mostly everyone that has a job wants more money, you cant say that about a trip some place or a TV.. I would go with the cash..

A company my friend works for offers them several choices every year. One year it was a TV or a grill and a gift certificate to a meat market. Another year they offered airfare and hotel for 2 to several different destinations (Las Vegas, San Diego, NYC). They evened out the costs by adding in spending money for the cheaper trips.

On a gift that large, wouldn't they be "obligated" to report it on their taxes.

    Cash.

Giving out laptops and tv's and whatever else may not be great simply because what if they just bought a new laptop or tv? Sure they could use another one, but if you give cash, then they can decide what they want to do with it...

99.9% of people would want the cash. They might need to pay off bills, they might want to save it, they might want to take a vacation.

If you give away vacations...lots of people have trouble finding time to go...especially if their spouse works.

Giving away things like TVs and stuff sounds cool, but what if they don't need a TV or something...it might not have any worth to them.

Remember...whatever you give them will be taxed so if you give them a $3000 TV, they'll have to pay their share to the IRS. That's why cash bonuses are usually the best, because the money is held from the cash itself...the person doesn't have to come up with additional money to pay the tax on an item.

    Cash bonuses are KING.
