I tend to prefer Islay scotches myself. Laphroaig Ten is pretty affordable, and probably gives the best peatiness bang for the buck. I actually like Caol Ila 12 quite a bit. I find that it almost tastes like bacon. If you like peaty scotches, I think you might like Ardbeg Alligator and Ardbeg Day. For everyday drinking, I found Bowmore Legend to be pretty affordable.
