My computer is decent right now 533 mhz 15gb 8x dvd BUT ONLY 64 MB SyncRAM so i want to update to 256MB. Please help me out because im just a poor little teenager with a slow computer!

    Droopy,

Pricewatch is good, but the cheapest RAM is always the low-end RAM that may or may not work with your computer. Not to mention there are companies on pricewatch I'd never do business with because quite frankly, they suck. If you can spend a couple more bucks, go to Micron's website and get quality RAM. I used to buy the generic stuff, but with prices so damn cheap, I've bought nothing but Micron lately.

I'd personally recommend that everyone get ECC ram, as most mobo's now support it, and it can come in extremely handy. A friend of mine just recently had ram go bad on one of his servers and the first bit of every 64th character that his server served up was set (and probably the first bit of every 64th byte of the rest of his ram), this happened because his partner didn't believe in ECC. Not exactly sure why, but he didn't.

ok i went thru to the micron website and checked it out. everything looked alright with the exception that i dont know much about computers and i didnt know half the things they were jibber-jabbering about. Could someone help me out here find the specific DRAM upgrade i need?..... my specs are at the top of the thread. HELP WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED

ECC RAM is a waste of money unless you're running a server; some say even then it's a waste of money. Most users won't run into any problems using "regular" RAM. As a matter of fact, several of the more popular boards that have come out recently don't even support ECC configurations anymore. The Intel 810 and 815-chipset-based mobos don't support it (from what I recall). The 820 chipset does, but you need to buy more expensive RDRAM for those mobos. What's worse, there are mobo's out there that should support it, but don't due to glitches in the BIOS. There are other mobo manufacturers that don't even put the support of the the RAM in their user guides... whether it does or doesn't support it I guess is left to the user. lol. The ASUS KG7 comes to mind...

If you decide to buy ECC RAM, just make sure your mobo supports it.

The best thing to do is to call them up. They may ask things like who makes your PC. Some motherboards only support certain memory configurations and some slots can only take up to x-MB of memory. Just call them up man... don't be afraid of humans!!!! [IMG]
