I'm looking for a good bar here in Houston -- somewhere to go chill for a bit after work, or maybe go on Friday or something. Figured I'd ask here and see if anyone knows of any they really like.

The Brewery Tap. Best beer selection in Houston. Downtown, on Franklin... Not a sports bar, but a great pub atmosphere.

Or The Big Easy on Kirby (Rice area). Best blues/jazz bar in town, with interesting clientele... also in Rice area is BW-3 (sports bar) and the Ginger Man (pub). And of course on Rice campus, Valhalla for the cheap student who wants to get really drunk (if it's still there, and if you can actually find it - good luck ;)).

Or go here to find something nearby: http://dc.web.aol.com/houston/bars/main.adp

One of my favorite hangouts is the West Alabama Icehouse on (where else) West Alabama, near Shepard. Outdoors, cheap, and with horseshoes and a basketball goal.

Ooooh Treeman...ever been to the Wednesday night jam at the Big Easy?

One good hangout bar that I found recently is Muldoon's, on Kirby b/w Richmond and West Alabama, behind the Cafe Express. Good place to chill and swig a few, and there are always more than a few sweet (relatively) young thangs there.

I like TK Bittermans on West Alabama, across from the West Alabama Ice House.

Li'l Woodrow's on Alabama between Kirby and Shepherd is a good place to just hang out and have some beers. Plus they have shuffleboard. Rock!

Cecil's on West Gray just east of Montrose is a cool, if somewhat run-down, Irish-style pub with pool tables and one of the top 5 juke boxes in the city.

But the most fun you can have in Houston on a Monday night is Lounge Night at the Continental Club. No cover, $3 martinis, $2 Pearls. The El Orbits play lounge music starting at 9:00 (they always close with "King of the Road") and call Bingo between songs. I just checked the website and they're now touting 'Atari Contests'. They've added this since I was there last, but it sounds cool.

If any of you clean up nicely and like to ritz it up a little.
The Bar in Hotel Derek on 610 Westheimer is very nice.
Its a great setting with a very attractive, well dressed
crowd. Its a little more, but the ambiance and plethora
of attractive women is worth it in my book!

Sorry guys, no showing up in shorts and a rockets jersey
with a mug for $1 beer specials!!

Others are Downing Street : a nice cigar bar on Kirby/Westheimer
Boaka: New Bar Downtown next to Mercury Room

When I'm in town, I always hit up The Gingerman in West U.

I also frequent BW3, SRO, Woodrow's, and The Richmond Arms.
