    study.

I took a break after attending the Blinn Paramedic Academy, and worked a couple of years around B/CS. Went back, and now I've got 3 classes left this fall.

Show up to class every day, get to know your professors (visit them during office hours once a week at minimum), and take advantage of everything that is available to you.

I'm at lonestar kingwood. Next year I will transfer to UH to do their air force rotc program so I can retire early. That's the plan anyway.

The thought crossed my mind, ill feel like Chris Hansen is going to pop around every corner. Some of the girls who are 18 now a days... Wow.

Study high, take the test high, and get high scores.

Study... seriously, that seems obvious, but I had a really hard time with that. I always waited until the night before the test to cram it all in and I barely scraped by because of it.

The sad thing was, my sophomore year I struggled all semester long in my history course. I bombed a test, didn't do that well on the quizzes, after the 2nd to last test, I realized that I would need to make a 90 on the final just to get a C in the course. So I decided to change things up. I would go to class, take notes, then later that day I would read over them until I could memorize the information. Then after the next class time I would read over the previous notes again, and then go over that day's notes. I just kept building on that every other day (we had classes on Tuesday and Thursday) all the way up to the final...

I made a 96. I hadn't made anything above a 79 all year, but the final was so easy I actually started to laugh during the middle of it because I knew I was going to get the grade I needed.

Now I'm not saying you need to study like that to be successful or anything, but take studying seriously.

Also, go to class. That's another one that seems obvious but I severely struggled with it. Once I decided to skip class for the first time, it was like a drug. I kept saying "oh well, next class isn't that important" and then I could never catch up.

Don't Skip Class. Do the Homework assigned to you in class. Study/ Find a study group that is beneficial to you (not just hanging out in the library talking/chillin). Visit/Talk to your professors about the class and its contents and make sure they clear up any uncertainties about the subject! other than that Don't party too hard and be safe with those girls!

Read ahead, work ahead. Don't stop at your bachelors, especially since you're in your mid-20s and young enough to not have massive credit card bills, a huge mortgage or overly expensive tastes. And don't turn down any major or course because it seems too hard or boring, you'd be surprised how little sleep you can go on, and how fun learning and studying can be. I'm doing a second bachelors' now partly because my finance degree is crap and I lack the people or leadership skills to advance professionally, and partly just to feel productive after work and on the weekend.

Also, figure out how to network and whom to network with. Try to spot the smart, likable people who might also have well-heeled social networks, and build those bridges early on.

How confident do you feel teaching yourself material? If you have the self-discipline, I would HIGHLY recommend taking some CLEP tests. They're about $80 a pop, plus sitting fees (my understanding is that they're free for servicemen), and you can knock out 3-6 credits by passing one of them. Think about that. Pass two 6 CR tests and one 3 CR test and that's a full semester of coursework knocked out.

    Some really good info here:

    http://www.free-clep-prep.com/index.html

As for campus life, the thing that really helped me was establishing a routine and sticking to it, a habit I picked up my second semester freshman year. From about 9-4, if I wasn't in class I was in the library doing homework, reading ahead, making and reviewing flash cards, and rewriting my notes from class in an organized, legible manner (with a break for lunch). I never did any schoolwork or studying during the weekends (unless I had a monday exam, and even then, 2 hours studying tops), and once I ate dinner and got back to my dorm or apartment it was game on.

I guarantee you, if you stick to a routine along those lines you'll not only be always caught up on work, you'll never have to pull all-nighters stressing over finishing papers that you should have started weeks ago or cramming for an exam you're totally unprepared for. Plus, it's a good method for committing information to your long-term memory, which is invaluable when midterms and finals come around.

Figure you wake up around 8, get down to business from 9-4, that leaves you with 8-10 hours a day plus weekends to do whatever the hell you want.

Have fun dude, and good luck. Sounds like we're about the same age, I'd give anything to go back to college.

I just started back a week ago. I'm not on campus, working full-time to boot. It's going to be hectic working full-time with 16 credit hours, but this program will be done in a year.

I think the older you get and the more established your life is when you go back to school, the more focus you are bound to have.
