It's been almost a few weeks since a thread like this popped up so I thought it was due.... What is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME Starters???

    C Wilt Chamberlain
    PF Karl Malone
    SF Larry Bird
    SG Michael Jordan
    PG Magic Johnson

This lineup could beat anybody with a super charged offense and all around basketball skills and size. This is probably the concensus starting 5 at their natural positions.

I agree with this, except I'd have Tim Duncan at 4 and Hakeem at 5.

    bird
    jordan
    magic

    are set

The rest depends on whether you believe in Bill Russell

    Magic
    Jordan
    Bird
    Hakeem/Russell

    la la la

It is just my opinion. I just think that the top 10 best players of all time include 5 centers (Russell, Chamberlain, Jabbar, Hakeem, Shaq), where each and every one of them redefined the position based on their skills.

    Russell--Defense, Speed, (First Run)
    Chamberlain--Power Scoring (First Run)
    Jabbar--Finesse Scoring (First Run...is there a 2nd? maybe Yao??)
Hakeem--Defense, Offense, Speed (The new definition of Speed in the low post)
Shaq--Power Scoring (the new defintion of power in the low post)

All five of them had talent never seen before at the level they brought it.

    la la la

So, talking "GOAT"s based on position when five centers have to be considered in the top 10...leaving only 5 other players....is for

    la la la

If allowed I would go with Hakeem at PF. A good complementary player to Hakeem at C would either be Chamberlain or Shaq. I'll go with Wilt for the scoring so that Hakeem can focus his energy on defense.

    C - Chamberlain
    PF - Hakeem
    SF - Bird
    SG - MJ
    PG - Magic

It depends which era these teams compete in. But it would only require minor changes. These aren't the best players at their position, rather the best I would think could gel and create an unbeatable team. So basically...

    Olajuwon (well rounded)

Duncan (well rounded, would have put Olajuwon at PF and added another great center, but Duncan can shoot and doesn't demand the ball like a Shaq or Jabbar)

Pippen (sigh... but he can guard the oppositions 1-3, passes well, and score in the post/slash/shoot)

    Jordan

Stockton (team needs a shooter, not great defender but makes a large impact on defense with his steals)

Damn I am bored. Damn its early.

    Magic
    Michael
    Larry
    Barkley
    Dream

I chose Barkely because at his height (6'4 1/2) he was a rebounding machine and was a gifted athlete that was as dominant as any.

    Kidd
    Bryant
    Garnett
    Duncan
    Shaq

The next group after they hang there gym shoes up.

Best starting 5 I could come up with:
C-Kareem (supremely efficient offensive player, decent FT shooter, and blocked a lot more shots in his prime than credited, he make this team better than Wilt, Shaq or Russell)
PF-Hakeem (Russell + offense--have him guard the opponents best PF or C)
SF-Bird (could go with a young Barkley and not skip a beat though)
    SG-Jordan (no debate)
PG-Magic (could consider Nash or West for off the ball shooting, but nah, Magic is better in too many other areas)

    Best according to "official" positions
    C-Wilt
PF-Duncan-though he really plays more 5 than 4, misleading "official" position.
    SF-Bird
    SG-Jordan
    PG-Magic

    C - Hakeem Olajuwon
    PF - Moses Malone
    SF - Tracy McGrady
    SG - Clyde Drexler
    PG - Calvin Murphy

    Coach - Rudy T.

This is my counter team to the supposed GOAT team:

    C - Shaq (v Wilt - even?)
PF - Dream (v Malone - no contest Dream)
SF - KG (v Birdmatch up to watch, outwordly atheticism v all-court savvy and shooting - edge Bird?)
    SG - T-mac (v Jordan - edge Jordan)
PG - Nash (v Johnson - edge Magic)

It will be fun to watch. Match-ups favor the GOAT team but I'd like to see them take to the hole.

How fast and awesome would the fast break be with Dream and KG in front of Nash and Shaq acting as the trailer!

Its not my thing. I am just adamant about my Scola view. But ya, Pippen and Stockton. It makes me sick a little. But if you read why I picked them hopefully it makes sense. I forget to mention Stockton's flops are also an important defensive maneuver. His defensive impact being the reason I picked him over Nash. Gotta have shooters...
