I found this site a couple of years back, but never went into the BBS until this year. My previous experiences with other Rockets Forums (ESPN etc) turned out to be a nightmare. It was full of people b****ing about each other, and was basically a fight forum.

When I first logged into the Clutch BBS I felt like I had been born again!

Thanks to everyone who made it possible!

That rookie Rocket104 actually told me about this place. Now he is at a whopping 24 posts or something and I am working on my 3200 or something. :)

Sorry to talk about the hangout forum, but my favourite thread was "Who is hotter: Britney Spears or Anna Kournikova" Ooooh the memories. :( Someone go find that damn thread and bring it back! :D

Oh I have a favourite thread in this forum as well. Started by me of course. It was the april fools one where I was saying something about Chris Webber being a Rocket or something. I dont know exactly what it was but a couple of dorks fell for it. I think it was Behad who actually searched the wire on espn like a dork that he is. :p

the initiation of an overseas chapter:

while at uni studying hard :D i was bored so i went online to get the box score for a rox game, and some info. luckily i was a student (and still am, though on a different degree now) with computer/net access ("you got a 386...coooool!"). This was the main way to get details in australia at the time (or a crappy bball paper if you were lucky).

my relatives in houston had mailed me a copy of the chron after each championship, so i remembered the name & tried to find its web page. no results at first so i did a search for rockets and found a whole heap of sites, including ClutchCity (. com, or cc.something - can't remember exactly).

I continued using the site when i could for a few years, along with (mainly) "the rocketguy". I stopped using clutchcity.com completely when it became useless. when i first used it, "the rocketguy" had a link to the clutchcity site on his home page (before the takeover/whatever happened). A link which has since been removed:D

One day wanting more info on a story, i decided to "give clutch city another try". CC.com didn't work, and the dot.com was a still a steaming piece of ****. I thought i might've gotten the extension wrong, which i kind of did, so i tried it with dot.net - a very good move on my behalf!

My only experience with a bbs was a dweeb i knew who ran his own bbs, and his "friends". As such, I naturally avoided the bbs portion of this site, expecting only idiots to be posting (rather than the few there actually are). I only read the game recaps, and the box scores.

I was taken in the bbs "by mistake". On the home page was a interesting story blurb with a "link for more info" type link on it. I clicked on it, and was taken to a piece written on the BBS. I then read the responses beneath it, and was amazed that idiots were not posting, but actually saying intelligent insightful stuff. It still took me a while to post; the bbs has/d a rep for burning newbies pretty bad :)

Games about to start - end of post :D

    LOL!

I think I was probably the guy you were arguing with in the following thread.

    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5053&perpage=30&pagenumber=2

Anyway, I'm a long time lurker, though I read the bbs about 3-4 times a day, everyday. I found this board when I moved to Florida to attend grad school and was looking for some decent Rockets coverage besides the awful coverage at NBA.com and the hack wannabe writer opinions of jerk-offs like Blinebury at the Chronicle.

I don't post a lot, just because ususally someone else has already said what I was thinking long before I get to read the thread (I swear some of you guys live on this BBS) :p

Actually, it started out pretty bad, but we were actually pretty civil towards the end . . . you know, right about the time that we fully killed that thread :D

Ugh, this thread, that launch pad dude really, jarred me out of lurk mode! Because of him, I remember the now defunct launch pad site which, incidentally, introduced me to cc.net. Back then, cc.net hadn't even become the site of choice for houston rocket fans - let alone me. Launch pad was. Later, as cc.net developed into a good source of information for rocket news, I found myself here more and more. But I still considered launch pad better. Call me loyal! Then launch pad closed it's day to day operations (read: no site updates). And I had no choice - I added cc.net to my favorites list. I come here everyday now.

Living in Australia I only get to see 3-4 NBA games a week (but at least we get some thanks to cable!), of which not all are Rockets games. Having been a Rocket fan since a visit to the US in '88 (amazingly not a bandwagoner from overseas!) I got to the stage in around '96 of needing to find out more and more about what was going on with 'my' team.
So I patrolled the net and read just about every bit of literature that I could find about the Rockets, and that got me through a couple of years, but I got sick of not being able to ask the questions about why things happened. I KNEW there had to be people out there who lived in Houston and could give me updates and rumours out of the papers/ from the radio/ hearsay from the streets, so I finally joined up with the ESPN BBS.
Well that was so-so for a little while, but when it got to the stage that I was watching more NBA than the people I was posting with it got a little frustrating, so I searched for another board - I had heard people mention Clutchcity as an awesome website, so I logged on to clutchcity.com and was severely disappointed! It was a little while later that I figured out clutchcity.NET was the place to be at and so I trolled around here for a while, not wanting to post since the boards were so full of knowledge I thought I might expose myself! Finally I dared to post (I think I had an ID in late '99 and then forgot the password) and have never looked back as the place to hear what's going on with the Rockets!

Greatest BBS/ website in the world for a sporting team!!!

I found this site in July of '99, but lurked for a little while, until someone pissed me off enough that I felt obliged to respond ;).

I think it was some argument between Hardwood Hammer and Caveman, but am not quite sure.

My favorite posts for a long time were the post-a-thon wars between TheFreak and thacabbage. I can remember changing my mind about who I agreed with after I read each post ;).

I found this site in '99, but also lurked for a good long while until someone pissed me off enough to start posting. Now I just learn to laugh at all the r****ded conversations, like that whole giving 110% escapade. But I am sure glad I started.

    Man I love this site.

Haha.... one of these nostalgia threads... I won't go into the how I found the site story yet again because I think I've told it like 17 times... But yeah, I've been here since two weeks after the site opened up in '96 and YADDA YADDA YADDA two year mission YADDA I'm still here...

    :)

    Best Clutch Memories:

    - Me and Clutch at the Rockets/Jazz game in the Delta Center
    - Watching the early evolution of ClutchCity '96 as Clutch took a one-man show into something very special
    - Clutch about to shut down the site, and grudgingly admitting that if people wanted more, he'd be forced to ask for some financial contributions
    - The Stoudamire saga
    - Meeting LaPhonso Ellis while on my church mission, and talking to him about signing for the Rockets during the summer of '98, when we needed a small forward, my only scoop during those two years :)
    - Seeing the strength of ClutchCity when it went to .net
    - popeye... 'nuff said
    - Flying in from Utah because heypartner got me tickets to go to Barkley's last game, and the good times afterward
    - Covering the Rocky Mountain Revue, and chillin with Rayford Young
    - Jeff and his amazing work with the arena vote
    - ClutchCity night at Compaq Center (this would mean SOOOOO much more to me if my planes had not been delayed and I had gotten to Houston in time for the game, instead of 5 minutes before the end of the game...) http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10528&highlight=depressed :(
    - Landing Griffin
    - Doing the Rocky Mountain Revue again, meeting Achebe and Moe, and interviewing Eddie et al

    I LOVE this site!

I remember when I came to this site I felt like Sally Struthers. The site was floundering, intellectual famine pervaded the landscape... so many distended egos and fragile personas. I just felt the call. It's a call that had to be answered. Sure, I don't put my efforts in the same category as say... Clutch or Jeff, but I'd like to think that somewhere along the line I taught someone (RichRocket, SmeggySmegg, rimbaud) how to read.

Actually, I finally posted b/c these big evil people with huge post counts kept talking smack about Charles. I believe the evil people were thacabbage and Barzilla. thacabbage hardly posts anymore, Barzilla hasn't been seen in a year and a half, I won.

I've been a Rockets fan since before they moved to Houston. In junior high, my Dad used to take me to Delmar fieldhouse to watch Big E and the Cougars so I continued to follow E when he was drafted by the San Diego Rockets.

I was ecstatic when they moved to Houston. We went to a few games. I drove slowly by E's house on Piney Point when he was traded. Boy was I bummed.

I remember when the Rockets drafted Cliff Meely and Ed Ratleff for God's sake! I remember when they cut James Silas to keep Johnny Egan for cripe's sake...

I came to this site prior to the 2000 draft. I got fired up because the Rockets had multiple picks. I think I found the place through a search at Dogpile.

I am out of state, so I hardly ever see the Rockets play. I read what you guys write to learn what's going on on the cou

That's why I spend so much time and energy in The Hangout. For me that is universal because I am cut off from Rockets basketball.
