They did not only not attack, but also waited for Armstrong until he had recovered from the fall, as Lance himself did for Ullrich a couple years back when Ullrich went off the road.
man, that must have been an awesome race to watch. Bjorn Borg was that low, too. it's incredible for sure, but doesnt' really surprise me. Other top marathoners have that rate, and I've known one semi-pro biker with a rate in the 30s. drapg's rate at 44 surprises me more, for an amateur,,,,no matter how much he runs.
How cool of Ulrich to wait for Lance when he fell? I wouldn't have. My resting heart rate is 54, but I don't really exercise.
Talk about sportsmanship! We could use some of that over here. And Lance is amazing. I hope he can keep it up. I think he will if he can stay out of any more trouble. I hope they show a lot of that race on cable somewhere tonight, heypartner. What a sequence of events!
Are we sure Ullrich stopped? the article only says the peloton stopped, which would have not included Ullrich at that point in the race, as Mayo/Lance we trying to catch him. my friend in Spain was wathing the race and said he didn't see Ullrich stop, as Ullrich was too far away to see the fall. But he's not sure if Ullrich maybe heard about it and stopped later.
Considering that there are not tests for every drug available and "masking agents" exist to fool existing tests I would guess that the number to be high.
He didnt stop. He waited. He was part of the three man break of Armstrong, Mayo and himself, and they only had a couple of seconds on the rest of the pack as it had just started. And Ullrich did see the fall, he was right behind them when it happened and had to stear away to miss them. Then Ullrich and the rest of the pack rode slow until Mayo and Armstrong was back up with the pack, and did not attack until they were ok. (Mayo started the next attack, and Armstrong countered). You could even see riders in the pack motion with their hands to eachother to keep the pace down.
i thought Ullrich broke first and had several seconds on Lance. Is this at some point when Lance/Mayo caught him? Anyhow, thanks for clarifying. I guess my friend was wrong when he ICQ'd me to say "didn't see it because ullrich wasn't nearby the fall...maybe he peddled backwards for a few strokes...."
masking agents are tested for, and while each individual drug can't be tested for - the common results can, and are. The Tour de France riders are now probably the most scrutinized athletes in history with regards to performance-enhancing drugs - especially after the scandal in the mid-90s. the number is low. These guys are just phenomenal athletes.
Ullrich broke first, bit that was the previous mountain. I also just saw and article with an interview of Ullrich where he said "I have/would never attack anyone after a fall". I could provide a link, but it is in a language most of you would not understand (Norwegian).
I think your friend have to be thinking of Lance's 2nd "fall". Ullrich didn't see that one, but it happened in the same sequence. Lance stepped out of the pedal when him and Mayo where catching up the pack and nearly went down a 2nd time. And as they had not yet recovered from the first fall they were still waiting for them, and he got a 2 in 1 fall wait up special.
Ouch! Both of them have got to be sore. That's not Astroturf they're landing on. Very classy of Ullrich to wait. You can see the advantage he had.
i know nothing about cycling, but im a huge lance armstrong fan just cuz of what he has been through and plus hes a Texan I have always been real curious about the whole sport of bicycling. i have a question on the post above, what exactly is going on? What "work at the front" does Telekom have to do that would help Lance? Doesnt Lance have to climb and do the same work anyway? second questions: what exactly does your team do? doesnt the postal team have 5 riders or something? I have been hearing the teams use strategy and game plans.. etc etc. what strategies are there? do you check someone with your bike like in hockey?
