Get this: there has been more snow in Dallas, TX since February started than in New York City, New York. Is this part of the global climate change (some call it global warming) or nothing out of the ordinary?
There's more snowfall in N. America this winter than has ever been recorded in any given year. But you can't take one year out and make any conclusions.
It's GLOBAL COOLING!!!! AAARRRRGGGHHHH This was the prevailing thought during the 1970's. See how dangerous it is to try to set policies based on unknown science? telling...
I thought Gore and his cronies said the earth was getting warmer. I guess the new term is "climate change". That way any extreme warm or cold weather can be blamed on man.
It was actually the guy who does all the 'label branding' for the Republican Party that pushed this out of scientific literature and into the mainstream. I heard him on NPR say that climate change sounds much less threatening than global warming, so he worked to get all the Republicans saying that.
One aspect of GW is climate change in other parts of the world. If one area gets hotter, the earth in its attempt to keep balance will make other areas cooler. That is one reason for measure global average temperature. It's just like one area getting more rainfall and another part of the world getting less. The danger lies in one crucial area getting a disproportionate change in temperature, such as the ice caps, which could set a chain of events that would intensify climate change.
Every winter there's some phenomenon that brings out the intentionally ignorant. There's nothing better than someone saying, "Hey, I scraped ice off my car today so that means GW is bogus." The National Climatic Data Center:
It is called GLOBAL, for one, so everybody looking at one or 2 cities to say there isn't a problem is not even trying to back their assertions up with any evidence. 2007 was one of the hottest years on record, that's a fact. If you want to keep it on a local level, remember the droughts in the southeastern states? Let's see what the average global temperature is at the end of 2008.
Wow. It's surprising how many ignorant/dishonest people there are here. Weather fluctuations are not the same thing as climate.
