Well it wasn't known Nachbar had an injury that would require surgery when he drafted and the "contribute right away" remark would seem highly questionalble given his playing time was limited in camp and we are 3 games into the season. The history of the NBA is littered with guys who were #15 picks who were not injured who didn't get off the bench before midseason and were considered to have good rookie years. Your observation that you don't think he's NBA material is duly noted, it's just a real stretch as an opinion that no one one can dispute yet, but I've already seen enough from Nachbar to disagree, but I'll say it's an honest opinion. But it's way too soon to know anything about his ability or future.
I saw Nachbar play in the preseason. His shot is better than Langhi's and he can drive to the basket as well. His shooting will improve with time and practice. His court awareness and passing looks pretty good.I also think his injury is holding him back and he wants to fit in with the team. If he comes back to full fitness and continue to improve he can become a solid SF for us.
GOSH, it's only been 3 games that the ROXS thus far have played, and some people are already saying that Yao Ming and BOKI are busts!! Please u NONbelievers, give them some time 2 show their stuff and u'll see ! Sometimes it takes months to 2 or 3 years before the can blossom in the NBA! A good example is Dirk Nowitzki & Steve Nash!
I dont see Nachbar and Hawkins as competing for the same job, even though the will compete for minutes. Hawkins is an off the bench energy guy, who will get minutes as a 3 against small non=starters. Nachbar will be groomed as a future starter,, It seems Hawkins will be mostly get minutes as a back-up 2, getting Moochies minutes there.
Boki also recently got shoe inserts and they can take some getting used to (I'm writing from experience with orthotics; it's enough just adjusting to them in day-to-day life; I can't imagine trying to get used to them while playing the NBA).
