He'll be a free agent after this season. There's very little chance of him sticking around in Oakland, so what do you think of him being with the Rockets? There must be some way. He's a PG, which would allow SF to play SG. He's averaging 17.0 ppg and 6.2 assts. I'm thinking perhaps trading Cuttino for him right now and try to resign him next year? I really dont know the figures, but think about him playing here. He did real well in the Rookie Sophomore game during the All star game and he's only in his second year, meaning he will improve...

    Thoughts?

At best, seen as a young Francis which isn't a good thing when you consider we already have the more maturing Francis.

At worst, a guy whose reliability is questioned in the clutch. Often replaced by a 5'5" guy in the 4th quarter.

I like Gilbert and think he'll be a good player in this league. But he's gonna ask for too much money to be a backup point guard (no way you think of him as the starter over Stevie).

He reminds me of the kind of point guard Cuttino Mobley was his rookie year. He can score, shoot, and is capable of going off occasionally but he'll never be called unselfish, hard-nosed, pass-first.... basically everything we would want our new PG or SG to be.

i don't think gilbert is leaving the bay area. why would he? together with jason richardson, they form a seriously formidable backcourt. if they get a legitimate down low scoring threat, they could be playoff contenders in 2 years...

i agree with what DnD said, but I was curious how is arenas' defense? unless the guy is an amazing defender, then that trade would hurt our defense. since we would have 2 6'3 guys at guard and mobley can play solid defense also. i think if anything stevie should still be the PG over arenas if he were traded for mobley and just have arenas play the 2 where he is a better fit. we don't need a true point guard we just need better passers who can also score. kind of like how the kings are...yes bibby is a true point guard, but their whole entire team can pass great.

Some article I read (ESPN?) mentioned that sometimes Gilbert isn't a great finisher on the fast break. Considering we already have a PG with that flaw, I don't know if we need Gilbert Arenas.

I really, really, really hope that Denver doesn't upgrade with all that cap space, and Golden State screws up again, and the Clippers lose all their free agents (unless it means the Jazz signing some of the Clips' restricted free agents)...

The West is tough tough tough enough w/o these other teams moving up.

Barring a miracle where Jason Kidd signs with the Nugs, Arenas will be a Denver Nugget. GS can only match his contract to the mid-level exception. We will be placing an offer that is approx. 5-6 mil a year. Plus, he and his agent are friends with Kiki.

arenas will want the max, and it's not wise for the rox to give it to him. so, pass on arenas.

Arenas is staying in GS. GS has made so many damn mistakes in breaking up good chemistry. I think they will win the bidding wars for his services...

I hope you are kidding? Unfortunately based on your post count you probably aren't... Pippen WAS a Rocket, and he hated it.

yes, he's kidding. the rox is not that stupid taking this overpaid guy back. they were smart enough to get rid of him years ago. if not, they would be like the the knicks or heats.

    wow, i didn't know that.

well, considering the rocks situation, the most i would offer him would be the same 4.5 mill exception that gsw is offering, and even then we'd have to get rid of moochie first. paying 2 b/u pgs that much money is financially stupid...

    i do like arenas, though...

I thought we already have a new arena on the way?
Why are we worried about other peoples arenas?
You people are so odd sometimes.

Just what I was about to say...

Arenas is a nice player, but doesn't fit in at all with us.

Personally, I wouldn't want Boynkins as the backup point guard either. He and Moochie could have dribbling contests. Also, Arenas' natural position is shooting guard. At Arizona, they had a guy named Gardner playing the point. Ah...the parallels with Stevie are frightening!!

Arenas also has a bit of an attitude problem. He and JRich skipped practice after their biggest win of the season as a protest to PT.

The only guy I would take on the Warriors is Troy Murphy.

Anyone who thinks Arenas is not a good PG has not been watching the Warriors on league pass.

He is exactly the type of PG the Rockets need, he looks to get others involved first, and is a very smart basketball player.

Right now, he would be the smartest guard on the Rockets by a factor of (n).

The Rockets need not covet Gilbert Arenas. If they should covet anybody on the Warriors, it should be Troy Murphy. Jason Richardson and/or Antawn Jamison in that order.
