Even though Jamie Foxx was going to win regardless, it's an absolute travesty that Paul Giamatti wasn't named when the Oscar Nominations were announced this morning. Best year ever for African-Americans, nabbing five of the 20 acting nominations. As great as that is, I can't believe they left one of the best and most widely heralded acting performances of the year off the list in favor of one overrated mofo-Clint Eastwood.
Was Jaimie Foxx really good enough to receive two different nominations? I heard "Collateral" sucked. I really hope Morgan Freeman wins though, he should have already won for TSR.
Since I thought Giamatti was a shoe-in, I don't think I'd be very good at it. I'll share whenever I finish seeing all the movies with big nominations. That means I still have to see: The Aviator Million Dollar Baby Ray Finding Neverland Hotel Rwanda Kinsey Maria Full of Grace Vera Drake So yeah, I gotta get busy heading to the cineplex in the next month or so.
Collateral was decent until it veered into Rambo territory (in terms of believability and the action exploits) at the end. Foxx, however, was the star of the film and not the supporting actor. He was in more frames than Cruise, and Foxx was the "hero" character. Foxx didn't do anything particularly noteworty acting-wise either. This was a very lackluster year for films though, so whatever.
RM...with all due respect...Collateral was possibly one of the worst movies I have ever suffered through...and I love those cop-buddy-shoot em up-type movies. This movie was so unrealistic from the time that they were allowed to drive all over downtown LA in 1/2 a cab with bloodstains all over it to them getting into an accident doing 100 mph and walking out of the car.
Foxx will win best actor Swank will win best actress Tossup between Ray and Aviator for best pic Eastwood wins best director
Collateral reminded me a lot of Training Day, so I guess it's no shock that Jamie Foxx would be nominated just like Ethan Hawke was for the latter film. What I do have a problem with is him being in the Best Supporting Actor category. The dude was in almost every scene. I realize Dreamworks likely pushed him for supporting actor since they didn't wanna lose the nomination to Ray, but I still think it's absurd.
Count me in as a Collateral fan. My pick for best movie of the summer. Then again, it was competing against the likes of The Village.
I thought Collateral was a great but am a little surprised at the nomination. I haven't seen Paul Giamatti's performance in Sideways but I've been a big fan of his since Big Momma's House. Check out his credits, they may surprise you.
Collateral was a good movie, but nothing special. I thought Foxx was the worst actor in the movie. He wasn't believable at all.
