Lubbock isn't "ghetto". You must think that any city under 1 million in population is ghetto. Lubbock isn't as bad as people make it seem.

Maybe I'm just being defensive because I lived the first 12 years of my life there, but I feel it's a good place to live.

I knew St. Louis was on the border...I just figured that East St. Louis was also in Missouri. All the rappers from East St. Louis(Nelly, Murphy Lee, etc...) claim to be from Missouri...wonder if they know that they actually live in Illinois.

I lived in Rezayat Village in Khobar in '91 and '92. There are some unique smells when you walk around downtown. However, that's what gives it its character.

That's unfortunate about Al Shula Mall. I used to buy bootlegged computer games from there for like 10 Riyals. This was back when floppy disks came on 5.25" media. I also enjoyed buying bootleg tapes there too. I remember buying just about every Guns 'N Roses and Def Leppard tapes there. Too bad you can't find shawarmas over here like could off the street in Khobar.

Do you still live over there, or have you migrated back to Texas?

A section of a city occupied by a minority group who live there especially because of social, economic, or legal pressure.

Lubbock isn't all that bad. I have lived there two years I am going back there Saturday and can't wait. I admit its not the best place to live but it is a great place to go to college. I wouldnt want to live there because I prefer the big city life but for probaly 3 more years its not bad at all. I just dont see why you think it is "ghetto". There might be 1 or 2 rough area's of the town but every semi-large city will have that.

I am still here. I comeback about twice a year. I grew up here. First moved here back in '89. I live in Aramco compound in Dhahran.

Yeah, I was really upset when Al Shula burned down. The fire department didn't even try to stop it from burning. The gov. I am sure thought it best if it burns down because of the black market going on in there. All the store owners have moved into another mall. I head over there to get bootleg pc and PS2 games. Also, there is a new mall which is amazing compared to anything from nback in '92. It's all marble and shiny metal etc. It's a 3 story fancy mall. I go there for Bootleg games too. (they also have Fudruckers in there).

I spent two years back in Tx and then came back to saudi back in 2000. I love the local food here.

There sure are some unique smells. If I ever smell them anywhere else in the world I refer to it as smelling like Khobar.

What's crazy about my compound is that they turned the old oil slick golf course into an amazing grass golf course! Here is this amazing grass golfcourse with pounds and fountains gazebos etc. in the desert! It's so nice looking. The story behind the tranformation of the course is that the VP of the company invited some business partners from Japan to play golf with him and they laughed at the oil slick course. So now he changed it to grass.

    wow...this is geting long.
