The thing you don't realize is that your parents are ultimatly responsible for your actions being that your under 18 plus you were in their house. If W would have had something really bad happen to him your parent's could have been sued by W's parents and possibly charged with a crime.
Ya'll should've stuck with beer or something low key. You sound very ignorant, naive and irresponsible in your words. Yeah, it could've been a good time with your friends and nobody would've known about it. But really...this is all your fault. If you're hosting people, esp underage, you should think of the worse case scenario and prepare for it. You can not drink (to watch everyone else...yes, your job includes babysitting), have EVERYONE stay over (keep the keys) or something along those lines. Like someone else said, if someone got in a car accident (DD or not) or someone had a little too much fun (as does happen when alcohol is involved), you and your family are liable. I hope you don't get away thinking that this was "okay." You should learn something from this. Being mad at W's mom is ridiculous. I hope you get what you pay for.
I swore off Mad Dog, Vodka, Rum and most other hard alcohol years ago. It's all too hard on the old body once you pass thirty.
OK, so: -you're doing something illegal, as minors, -that your parents would not be very happy about. -and you provide a place for all your friends to do it -including some who aren't going to be responsible (like many young people) -and you go to sleep and let them run wild -and someone jeopardizes his own health and safety with the alcohol you provided. Sorry, but I've got to agree with the older crowd on this one. At the very least, you might understand why you would be in trouble. Think about if it was your kid...
Never got caught drinking, but I got caught doing the nasty with my GF by a teacher and the Dean's sister at boarding school.
"Underage drinking" is indeed stupid. Age of drinking should be a parents' decision if their kid is younger than 18, not a legal one. The consequences is we now have all kinds of young people with no control of their alcohol who already have keys and cars behind them when they start.
Y'all must not realize that you're an adult at the age of 17 as far as courts are concerned in Illinois and Texas and most other states. Sixteen year old seniors are very few and far between. If you're old enough to get tried for your stupid decisions, then you're old enough to make them. Lay off a little. The guy had a dumb drunk friend that got too plastered. So what? He was legally old enough to be responsible for his own decision to binge drink. That onus is on him. To get back to the original subject (which wasn't lecturing a legal adult on decision-making, BTW); when I was 15, I spent the night at my best friend's house and we raided his dad's liquor cabinet. We didn't know at that point what our tolerances were, and for that matter, what the effects of hard liquor truly were. We continuously drank tequila and vodka straight up and in coffee mugs until we started to feel drunk. That's how it worked before with beer, so that's how we did it with the liquor. But, once we were drunk enough and decided to stop engaging the effects of alcohol, the teqvodka let it be known that it's plans were to the contrary. We ended up puking our brains out and, in the process, woke his parents up who saw to it that we both were grounded for an extended period of time. We learned our lesson, let me tell you. Next time I spent the night over there, the liquor cabinet had a new lock that we bypassed by removing the hinges on the other side of the door. Our lesson-learning came in when we decided to use shot glasses and take breaks between shots.
In this day and age folks who are legally old enough to make their own decisions to drink still manage to successfully sue establishments that legally sold them the liquor they got drunk on. Anytime an underage person hosts other underage drinkers at their parent's house, they are putting their parents at risk!
I'm not going to give you a hard time for drinking underage. That is your parents job. I did it very rarely when I was underage, and didnt get caught in any real sense. Looking back on it, I am pretty sure my parents knew or had suspicions about a couple of times, but it was never brought up. The night that was our last day of school we did manage to get into a strip club. A friend of mine bought a teddy from a particularly unattractive dancer. We were spending the night at his house, and there were 7 of us. We were in two cars. The car I was in got to his house first. We told his mother that we went to a fairly boring graduation party, and it wasn't anything special. At that exact moment the door busts open and our friend comes in the room waving the teddy over his head, screaming, "We went to titty bar!" over and over. I don't know if everyone's parents heard about that, but mine did. It was very embarassing.
i realize you guys are all blasting me for my decision. i understand you guys taking the high moral ground or whatever, but it's not like this thing doesn't happen. i had a talk with my parents. it's pretty understood that i ruined their trust (and obviously, i did), but they weren't as angry as they thought. they were much more suprised and they did a good job of making me feel real bad about it. all i know is, i'm not hosting any more 'get togethers'. especially not with W there honestly, i know i messed up, there's nothing i can do about it now except ride through the next few months straight edge. i won't lie, it's not like i'm never going to take another drink until i'm 21....i'll just be a lot more careful. some people can handle alchohol, and some can't, especially at this age. i learned that the hard way. i'm 17 and i'm sorry for what happened but it's not like anyone was hurt by this (except for my social life and the community service i'm gonna probably have to do). i feel bad for causing this stress to my parents, but there's nothing i can do about it now. anyways, i was actually more interested in hearing other people's drinking stories rather than getting fried for my own drinking story, but i guess it turned out to be a pretty entertaining discussion either way.
