Well I have the sirius hooked up in my car now. Enjoying is so far!

Next I may want something for inside the house. Does anyone have any of the boomboxes and if so how well do they work indoors?

As I said in the latest "what are you listening to?" thread. The wife got me XM for the house and car for christmas also! I LOVE it! I'll never listen to regular radio again.

rocket fan if the Sirius boombox is anything like XM's it's totally worth it! It has a very Bose like quality. The sound is excellent!

    [edit]

I read today that Sirius and XM are in talks to merge. That might be interesting...

Rocketfan....the boomboxes have antenna's with cables so as long as you are near a window...you should be fine.

Sirius antenna's work best outside since their satelite's move, while XM's can sit near the window if it's facing the right direction.

You see, most people look at it as a few bucks a month, not over 100 bucks a year. I'm with you on this.

Sam I'm the same. But since we've had it, I've listened to it a lot! A lot more than what I expected. And I've been catching up on music I've been missing, music I'd forgotten, music I'd never heard before. One of the resaons I stopped listening to radio was because it just became about the dollar. XM and Sirius brings back the music.

    It's woth the $9.99 a month.

nashvegas. I ask because in my dorm I can't take the screen off my window so.. I have sirius....

I'm near downtown and the radio works in the parking garages etc around here so I dont know if thats an indication that in my area the antenna wont have to be outside in the opened.. since I get recpetion even with a parking garage cover over top of the car

I get a lot of TER instead of SAT when I'm in this area it seems. whatever that means I think TER means I wouldnt have to be out in the open?

TER is shorthand for "terrestrial repeater"

basically...those are repeater towers in large urban areas to help ensure you can get a signal no matter what...even amongst the tall buildings and inside some parking garages.

think radio waves...but carrying the satellite signal.

I dont get TER signal until Im inside the Beltway...out here I am purely SAT...

you can also get the home antenna....it is basically a aatellite dish mounting with a antenna on it that canbe mounted to the side of your house.....you can also get very long antenna cords to run to whereever inthe house you want it (unless you have a huge house)

Mine came with both a car and a home setup...I just move the unit back and forth as I need to...adn I use the FM transmitter to listen to it over my stereo (both car and home)...some say that the sound quality isnt good enough that way....but I have no complaints and I used to be a audio engineer....so it isnt like my ear is dead....

Just so you know it's a bunch of crap. There has been a lot of merger talk with a lot of stocks in the market lately and people seem to be throwing crap against the wall and seeing what sticks. The merger would make no sense and would more than likely not be allowed.

To give you an idea of some of the other crap that was thrown around with SIRI and XMSR... A couple weeks ago this "analyst" gets on CNBC and says he is short both companies and long Direct TV because he said DTV was getting into the satellite radio business. So pre market SIRI and XMSR sold off hard in fear of competition and DTV went up. It didn't make sense when the guy said it and it turned out he was just lying. Good stuff.

rocket2k. so I'm pretty near downtown nashville and get full ter around the area.. I hope that means I should be able to get reception in my dorm without the antenna being outside...

Then again when I go back to Houston I'd probably be relying more on SAT again I guess

I know I can listen online to the stuff but it seems like they let you listen to music but not sports on the online player!

could be.....you will have to experiment and see....

just to be safest...you will probably want to have the antenna at least pointing towards the window.

As far as Houston....depends on where you are at.

Like I said earlier, once I get inside the Beltway....I get a strong TER signal....but since I live and work outside the Beltway....I have to depend on the SAT signal.

its ok tho....I can still recieve it fine. ;)

Rocket2k.. yeah I live in NW Houston when I'm not at school.. off of 290 so I'd doubt the TER would be very good out that way.

I've rented a couple of cars that came w/ XM and really enjoyed a couple of the stations, particularly the XM Cafe, the Hear Music channel, and Deep Tracks. Recently, someone gave me a trial subscription to Sirius, and I've been digging the Jazz and Classical stations, which seem much better than their XM counterparts. any suggestions on Sirius equivalents to the XM Cafe?
