The Hoopsworld Daily says, and I quote, " At the top of every Rocket fan's wish list this off season has been get rid of Jason Collier." Now I'll hardly be drying my eyes if we do move him, but am I alone in reacting to that quote with something akin to "Whatthe....huh?" Not to nit pick..okay, maybe a little, but I would personally have ranked extending Steve, drafting Ming, signing Ming, getting Moochie to realize that the phrase "desperation shot" is a bad thing, getting Mo healthy, getting Rice healthy, getting Rice gone, and getting Cato a new publisher ahead of dumping Collier. Sort of like this thread, I find it to be largely a non-event...
Why get rid of him? He helped us reach our goal last year, the least the Rocks can do is let him witness the fruits of his labor and see Yao in action. Dude is fine IR material, and he has a decent expiring contract that may be useful in potential trades this season.
jason is as likable, affable, basketball-coherent a player as you will find om a professional NBA team, but ... He is like that sister you have that you wish was as pretty as the other sister but no matter how much you wish and pray ... she will always be the one that gets picked last at the ugly duckling - Sadie Hawkins Dance. Jason has good promise, average presence, passable attributes and a kindly manner, but that nagging hint of "what the ... huh?" everytime he steps on the court can not be ignored. He is as superfulous as the proverbial hind teat on the champion bull. That is much is accurate, if not well-focused, about the article.
JC is in the last year of his three-year rookie deal, at only about $1.4 million. I'm sure the Rockets have a lot more pressing needs to worry about than his contract. Plus, why not keep him around on IR until January/February, to package him as cap fodder along with another player (KT?)? This is just another example of TRG trying to make up a story.

You know I'd be one of those people who would be quick to say lets get rid of him, but when you think about it he's worth a good 6 fouls against some of the big men so why not just keep him. Hell, he might even get a couple of points every now and then
He's a good practice dummy and insurance policy. Keep him around until something better comes along...
Opie, you really are one weird dude...interesting, but weird. In regards to "getting rid of Collier", someone please tell me exactly who would give anything to aquire him??
If "Opie" is weird I wish he would share more of his "weirdness" with us. I would call it good writing but then someone might think I was sucking up to one of the board's great ones, so I won't. I think Collier's worth 6 fouls and a spot on the IR as well. Maybe someday he'll wake up. (maybe no)
Lose Collier and pick up Bateer (FA). He'll brings more on the court than just 6 fouls. What if Ming or Cato (like years past) go down? Griffin? He can play it but he makes a better PF than C. MoT? We'll see how he returns. If Collier is on the bench for 6 fouls, trade him if you can, cut him if you must - we need the spot for some more muscle. Besides, Bateer can help Ming adjust to America and the NBA.
