this thread is about talent unfulfilled or players who could really thrive in another situation. please add yours here's a few: stanislav medvedenko - in malone and shaq's absence, has put together 20-10 most nights. hustles, rebounds and aggressive tenacity bobby jackson - yes, perennial sixth man and gets his minutes always but what is the upper limit of this guy? he's a swarming gnat, plays perfect transition, can score at will from anywhere, plays good help d from the side. imagine him starting and given a green light. anyone who has watched him as much as i have would probably argue he's a top 3 PG in the west. gooden and flip - like donyell marshall, they don't need to be considered the bench ignitor. they should be starting either on their team or elsewhere
Ruben Patterson talent unfulfilled Troy Hudson thrive in another situation Antawn Jamieson thrive in another situation Darius Miles talent unfulfilled Derek Anderson talent unfulfilled ...just for starters. How many more are out there?!!
Talent unfulfilled: Joe Smith Antonio Daniels Tim Thomas Jonathan Bender Eddy Curry Tyson Chandler Better with a change of scenery: DeShawn Stevenson (shows flashes of becoming a go-to scorer) Chris Wilcox (playing behind Brand may get him experience, but he could be a monstrous boarder on a weak Eastern team)
BJ is actually a smaller version of Steve Francis, a scoring PG. He's lightning fast and can shoot. He's good in Sacramental because the Kings don't need the PG to setup the offense. Everyone on that team can pass and shoot.
When I think of diamonds in the rough I immediately think of Aladdin.... then guys like Kirelenko or Peja come to mind. That is a perfect example of scouting at its best. Before the whole Euro craze really started, teams like the Kings and Mavericks (Dirk) found guys in places that the NBA hadn't recently gone to for star players. Who was the biggest foreign player in the 90's? Toni Kukoc?? I actually enjoy seeing guys like Mario Elie, Stephen Jackson, Marc Jackson emerge from nowhere to make a solid contribution. They're not the stars but they are just as necessary to have a good team. Look at Orlando. You'd think at least one of their scrubs would step up and help T-Mac.
Smith will NEVER live up to his #1 pick billing. Antonio Daniels is in the same situation...that draft was weak overall. Tyson Chandler and Eddie Curry....the Bulls/Krause gave up Elton "I get 20/10 in my sleep" Brand for these two scrubs. Bender...he's just lost on the Pacers' bench.
Darius Miles sucks balls. He's terrible. A brilliant athlete, but his shot is so bad, he might as well fart the ball up there.
Talent unfulfilled: Robert Horry Joe Smith Jim Jackson (granted he had the ankle problem and was never the same) Jason Williams Maurice Taylor (could file under thrive in a diff. situation) Keith Van Horn Tim Thomas Darius Miles James Posey Jonathan Bender Larry Hughes Anthony Carter Bob Sura Lamond Murray Lawrence Funderburke Gerald Wallace I would say Lamar Odom, but he's getting it done this year.
