I think if we are asking for their choice of Redd/Mason we have to include Griffin or Boki and either (but not both) Mo and Cato. You know if I were Milwalkee I would shop around Tim Thomas (who personally I think has a terrible contract, though he isn't a horrible player) for the best PF or C that can be had. e.g., --Maybe a sign and trade for Kandi (I really don't think Kandi will get a better deal than that)--though I doubt Sterling would go for that. --Maybe Ratliff, Swift, or Nestoric with other players/teams involved. Then I would decide if I want Mo (offensive PF) or Cato (defensive 5) paired with that player. Or how about this: Payton Caffey Thomas for Cat Cato Mo Rice Boki Personally, I think Milwalkee could do some better-- like trade Thomas to Atl for Ratliff (in a 3-way where Atl send Thomas elsewhere, or a seperate trade with the Big Dog) elsewhere) And then go.............. Payton Caffey for Cat Mo Rice Milwalkee next year would have: Cassell (Mobley , FA back-up from offseason) Mobley (Redd) D Mason (Redd,Rice-1 year, Kukoc-1 year) Mo (A Mason, Kukoc-1 year, Haislip) Ratliff-2 years (Pryzbilla, Johnson, Gadzuric) They would not be too good next year, but they would not be Cavs/Nugs horrible--Cassell, Mobley and Mo can all score inthe East. They would be much younger and they get HUGE cap relief the next two years with Kukoc, Rice & Ratliff's off the books. Either they go this route or one like it (S&T with GP)--or they sign Payton for a big contract that will keep them out of the FA market in the near future and they never will have enough of a front line around Payton-Cassell to get better than medicore, or they lose Payton for nothing.
Keep Joaquin:- The only serious problem is you end up with FOUR PLAYERS not good enough for the NBA-Rice,Norris,Hawkins and Collier.
You gotta be kidding me. If the Bucks ever do that trade...I'll go pick up GP at the airport myself. They traded Ray Allen for GP, I doubt they would want the contracts of MoT, Rice and Cato on their shoulders. In addition, they're seriously taking a step down from they are at now. You want to trade our bench for their starters? We might else well offer Moochie for Desmond Mason as well. To get Gary Payton, you will have to give up S.Francis or Yao Ming. Nuff said.
Hawkins is not good enough for the NBA?!? Just kidding... Both trades sound nice. Both scenarios would help the Bucks without just letting Payton just leave. Wait for Sane to come and discuss...
Oops sorry. The trades were posted by Desert Scar... "You gotta be kidding me. If the Bucks ever do that trade...I'll go pick up GP at the airport myself. Someone please explain to him that they don't even know if they want Gary Payton and tell him that it would be better to sign and trade him than to just let go of him and lose Ray Allen as well. Someone tell him that Payton doesn't exactly fit the Bucks' plans and tell him that they desperately need an inside game. Someone please tell him that the Bucks haven't been TOO successful since the trade. Someone please tell him that maybe the Bucks are planning for the future and want to save up money to sign some big free agents next next season. And someone please tell him that the Bucks have many other young players that should be playing too. But OF COURSE. We are dreaming...he will never be a Rocket.
To get Gary Payton to even think about the Rockets... the Rockets would have to do 2 things: 1) Convince Payton that the Rockets are serious about contending for the NBA title 2) Get a coach that Payton has confidence in and has respect for
as for number 2, the coach that Payton likes the most is probably his current one, and George Karl makes Rudy look like Red Auerbach, which says something about payton.
Lets see...so they want an inside game with Cato and Griffin. Two players that have no inside game whatso ever. Griffin is turning out to be a bust and Cato is not worth his half his contract. Why would they need Mobley!? They have Desmond Mason, Tim Thomas and Sam Cassell. DO you actually think Mobley would fit into George Carl's system but Gary Payton (who by the way played for Georgie when he was with the Sonics) doesn't? Someone please explain to him that they don't even know if they want Gary Payton and tell him that it would be better to sign and trade him than to just let go of him and lose Ray Allen as well. Ray Allen had two years left on his contract, obviously they weren't gonna lost him for another 2 years. THey traded Ray Allen because George Carl wanted GP. The Bucks traded the best shooter in the game for Gary Payton and D.Mason. Do you actually think that they'd give up Ray Allen for Mobley, Griffin and bunch of dead weight? If you were the Sonics manager and you actually did this trade, you'd be on ESPN's top ten blunders. Come on man..use that freaking brain. And the Bucks haven't been to successful since the trade? They're were almost at the bottom of the East and now they're in the playoffs. Payton is averaging like 7-8 assists and 18 points since that trade. Hes a proven veteran who commands respect. Not even Steve could do that on the Bucks. The Bucks are planning for the future, they're building with GP. They know they're not going to get Kidd or Duncan, there are teams like Denver and San Antonio that can afford to sign the max for atleast 2 players. GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD! WE CAN'T GET PAYTON UNLESS YOU DEAL FRANCIS OR MING OR LIKE 4 1st rounders or something along those lines. I'd waive Cato, Rice and MoT even if money wasn't an issue. They're not worth their contracts. If I know this, all of the pro GMs do too. Also, Cuttino's market value has gone down and so has Griffin's. If Payton comes to Houston, it'll be because he wants to not because he was traded. Get real kid.
Cipherous, Payton will be 35 shortly, I don't see how he is in Milwalkee's long range plans. I don't see too many other teams that will be hot after him either because of the kind of contract he will get at his age. Honestly if I am Milw I try to trade GP for what I can get along with Caffey and the-overpayed-for-what-he-does-but-not-a-terrible-player Tim Thomas, that way I get young, get a bunch of expiring contracts and cap space the next two years, and get low draft picks. Then maybe you can get a young star or two via FA or the draft to grow with solid young role players in Mason, Redd, and the not that old Cassell, and hope Pryzbilla, Gadzuric or Haislip develop as well. I do agree Jauquin and I posted somewhat unrealistic trades--but we were assuming Milwalkee gets under the gun and might lose him for nothing. Something like Mo or Cato, Mobley and Boki is not bad for Payton and Caffey, and then Mason or Redd can slide to the 3 so you can trade the overpayed Thomas.
Well thank you for sharing your opinions Cipherous. The trades probably will never happen..but it's not bad to think...and imagine. We'll just wait and see. Let's see if Gary Payton is on the Milwaukee Bucks next season.
I doubt that Payton is gonna ween after 35. Look at Jordan, Malone and Stockton. Payton brings leadership, respect and focus to the Bucks. Thats why its easy to find talent but hard to find the intangibles and even harder to find both. I am betting that Payton will be with the Bucks as long as Carl is coach. I expect Cassell to be shipped out before Payton is. Tim thomas might be over paid but so is 70% of the NBA but thats buisness for ya. I doutb that they want anybody from the Rockets with the exception of Ming and Francis. Besides, I'd rather have the contracts of MoT, Rice and Cato than Thomas and Caffey. All are over paid but we have more use for our bench.
Okay. Well since maybe they ARE going to keep Gary Payton in your opinion, wouldn't it be a good idea for them to get rid of Cassell and just return to a normal offense with a shooting guard? Can we get Cassell? We could easily get him for Mobley. But I wouldn't do that... Packaging.
Forget it! He sucks! He's way too old... But that means a better chance to get him. Anyways...I like Jason Kidd.
Yupp, and it's not the first time its happened to him either. Most of the posters in this thread seem to be thinking of the 90's payton that gave kenny smith fits. That guy isn't around no more.
