That's just hate talking. It makes sense to have a grizzled vet champion like him coming off the bench. He could help with Senguns defense.
Garuba is so young it was always going to take time. How long did it take similar defensive-type players to find steady roles in the league? I'm talking the PJ Tucker / Patrick Beverely's / Chuck Hayes of the world. What was insane to me is that Garuba hit a large amount of his threes last year. Albeit on small sample size and weird ass form.. but it was great confidence building 3's that you didn't see Sengun taking. I wish him luck and maybe he'll end up on the Rockets in a few years anyways.
For a time, Garuba had the highest 3 point percentage on the team. That spoke volumes about the lack of shooting on the roster. I wish him the best in Golden State. The potential is definitely there.
GSW has arguably one of the best FOs in the league. They saw enough in Garuba to take a chance on him. It is 50/50 whether GSW can develop Garuba into a rotation player on a championship contending team ... but I would not bet against GSW and Garuba.
Would not read too much into it. By the time Garuba is a championship caliber role player, GSW might even be in rebuilding mode. They would just be grooming someone for another contender. Who knows, it is likely.
GSW have a second generation of talent that is better than most. Moving on from their 2nd overall pick in Wisemen shows they are choosing to keep only what works. I hope Garuba is ready because if not he is gone. The structure and the addition of CP3 will be a polar opposite of his time here. only the best to him, less the Rockets.
I heard they're signing Dwight too, will be interesting to see that battle for big man minutes off the bench
GSW are in the downword spiral where they are trying to hang on - while their players decline and need to take shots on other team's castoffs...... It never works. DD
a two-way is probably the least of risks taken. it's not like they spent any assets on him, nor a regular roster spot. fwiw: I did bet against Marquese Chriss and GSW, and was right, despite Kerr and Draymond saying how much he was fitting in during training camp. so, "no worries," it could happen again.
I'll still never forget what a Phoenix reporter said about Marquese Chriss Strengths: He can do everything physically on a basketball court. Weaknesses: Basketball
Lots of players can be a rotation player on a Champ team, doesn't mean anything imo. I would have loved to have kept Garuba, defensive big men on the cheap are pretty useful. But we also have Jock Landale and Jeff Green on the team so I don't know how much time he would have gotten.
