Has anyone tried changing the setting to show the strings in the traditional guitar tab format? Anyone like that better than the default setting?

Haven't tried that but it has crossed my mind. Specifically, I kinda worry that I will get so used to this format that it will be very difficult if I'm ever in a situation where I need to play along as I'm reading regular guitar tablature. Of course, I'm a total amateur (been playing about 2 months) who plays for fun so I don't know if this is a realistic fear I have.

If the trailer videos are to be believed, it seems like a lot of the musicians at SXSW really liked it.

Figured I'd give an update since today is exactly one month since the game's release.

Let me start by saying that since that first week, I haven't played the game all that much - maybe for an hour or two once or twice a week.

But that doesn't mean I've lost interest - not at all. It would be more accurate to say that, as a result of the basics that the game taught me (including the finger strength, muscle memory, and some mean callouses), I've found myself learning and practicing away from the TV more than ever before.

I've been look at some tutorials by this guy on youtube named Marty Schwartz. He's a great teacher and has a ton of beginner songs that you can more or less learn in one sitting.

    Example video:
    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/D687Kfm1tP8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    So, back to the game...

I fired it up for the first time in a while last night, and I was worried that I would be really rusty on the actual songs and would have to relearn a lot. To my surprise, I was topping all of my previous scores on the first or second try. On a couple of songs, I completely dominated my previous high.

I also noticed that I was much, much quicker when switching between single notes, and can find the appropriate fret without looking down a lot of the time - something that wasn't even remotely true when I started.

All in all, I'm further along than I anticipated I'd be, and I couldn't be happier about it. Even if I never play it again, this game was already worth $80 to me.

    Simply awesome.

I haven't been able to play as much as I would like, especially since getting Skyrim, but it's been able to keep me interested. Lately I've just been practicing certain songs I want to learn instead of going through their set path.

Hopefully they release a path soon to improve the UI and get rid of the 5 life limit on the riff repeater.

I know I'm late to the game on this, but I just got a guitar for a Christmas/Birthday present and picked up Rocksmith. Thanks for the input on this thread, it helped me make up my mind to get it. I never really got into Guitar Hero, but I love this.

A patch was just released, it's supposed to fix some bugs on PS3 and improve the interface some, but the main thing is you now have 30 lives in riff repeater instead of 5 and you can set the level to whatever you want. I've been playing off and on but I've mainly played the same songs, now that I can actually practice songs I'll probably be playing it more often.

Cool. I haven't played in a while because I want to learn songs and not just half ass it and the riff repeater was annoying because you had to restart it after you lost your lives...gonna get the patch and try the game again.

How is the support for this game holding up? I have my 6-year-old in guitar lessons and I'd like to integrate this game.

    Bump.

Been playing this game for a week and love it. While it doesn't teach you musical notation, it's a fun way to learn songs and technique.

Anybody begin learning guitar with this game? Still playing/learning beyond the game?

It's been a lifelong dream of mine to learn to play guitar. I had a guitar awhile back (les paul clone), but never really did anything with it. I finally decided to pick up a new guitar (a squier tele affinity), and I picked this up after reading a lot of reviews. In the couple weeks that I've had Rocksmith I've played my guitar more than I ever had in the past. I really like it and I'm looking forward to Rocksmith 2014. Highly recommended for new guitar players, imo. Yes, it's missing theory and other things but it's a great jump off point.
