Maybe I'm missing something but here's what I'd like to see improved: Should be an easy way to switch between users. If my daughter wants to play then she wants to play at her level not at the level I'm at. Should be an easy to access area that teaches you the scales. Wish it showed the key of the song as it changed so I could try to play in the same Key even if I'm not hitting the exact notes the game is showing. I think a better menu system is in order but all in all still an A+ from this reviewer on the game overall.
I think their defense to your first complaint would that the dynamic difficulty of the game will adjust to different users over the course of a song. Not that I think that's a great answer. I haven't looked into playing scales, but I tried to use the chord lessons. Boy, does that section need some work. You have to pick a song, pick a single chord from that song, and then you get to play it. If you want to choose a different chord you have to go through the entire process again. Which leads me to my next point... I completely agree with you that the menu system needs an overhaul. Way too much work to get where you want to go.
But even if the game adjusts the other user will still be messing with your game data. I want to let my step son play but dont want him to use my game data. So if I understand correctly, the only way for him to play and start his own game is for me to log out of the PSN, create an account for him and log him in? Or is there another way?
Ahh, I see. Well...yeah, looks like another annoying usability problem. As someone who designs user interfaces for work, this kind of thing really irks me. I hope they can fix some of this stuff in a patch.
http://twitter.com/#!/Rocksmithgame/status/129974240685473792 I'm still playing a little bit each day, I just wish I had more free time to play.
Nice. I haven't played as much as I would like either. Mostly due to a combination of being busy and having to let my fingers rest while they build up callouses. They're gettin' there.
I wonder if the developers will get sued for all of the calloused fingers this game will cause. Lulz.
Some DLC has been released, $3 each. Available now: Lynyrd Skynyrd – Free Bird Radiohead – Bodysnatchers The Black Keys – Tighten Up Available 11/15: Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple More Than A Feeling - Boston Jessica - The Allman Brothers Band I'll definitely be getting Tighten Up and will probably get Free Bird, Jessica, and Smoke on the Water later.
Pretty bummed about that list, actually. I already got Freebird and Bodysnatchers for pre-ordering. I'll probably snag Tighten Up, but I don't really see anything in the second batch that I'd pay for.
well, I played voodoo's, and as usual the interface on these things trips me up. I play the songs better when I'm not trying to follow the notes down and watching the frets (why am I watching a right handed guitar if it's set to lefty?) but maybe that will improve with time. I've only played Rock Band/Guitar hero a handful of times. Maybe once I remember what strings are what color I would be better at it, but when playing songs I already knew how to play, I would totally botch them if following the interface and tried to hit the intermittent notes, but could play them through completely if I ignored it. There is a bit of a delay, and it's hard to really be sure if you're supposed to beat it to the punch and make it sound right, or hit it right when the notes hit the sideways fret board, but I've heard different av setups affect this. Don't know if we were on the good or the bad end, but it was tolerable. Chord game killing the little zombies seems like a good idea, though occasionally I found I was playing the right chord and not getting credit. I assumed it was due to bad timing on delay, or maybe my old frets rattle just a bit too much. I dunno. Overall, I found it really fun though. It's a little weird learning the songs in bits and filling in gaps as you go, but I guess it encourages getting started on formidable songs. Honestly, I think putting the time into just learning the songs would suit me better, but this does make it fun. I agree the interface is very cumbersome, and it should allow you, or be easier, to play under different users to keep users progress etc. separate. Overall, I give it 7.5 out of 10 stars. Content is decent, but bass additions would be good. Tuning before song I would say could be more accurate, but that part is very smooth interface wise. Really awesome playing your own instrument on it though, just what I thought the guitar part of RockBand or Hero should have been. These guys made it happen. Very nice.
I haven't messed with it myself, being that I'm not a skilled guitarist, but I believe you can set the songs to the hardest difficulty in the options menu if you don't want to learn piece by piece.
yes, but the interface is an obstacle for me. Maybe it would be better to crank it up, I don't know. I get a little lost trying to watch it. I only tried it once though.
Unfortunately, I got home to find out that Tighten up is actually $5, Freebird and Bodysnatchers are $3.
That's disappointing. You would think they'd make the songs cheaper - like iTunes pricing. I got Freebird and something else for free as part of Best Buy pack.
Regarding replays taking forever to load and having to retune again etc... One thing you can do to circumvent that slow process is to press start before whatever you are playing finishes and click restart. This will simply restart whatever you are doing immediately instead of fading to the results screen and reloading etc. Keep in mind this will not save anything that you have done up to that point. But a lot of times you don't care about saving anyway. For example, if you are in the Leveler and you failed to level up the section you are playing, there is not really any reason to wait for the system to save your progress on the results screen as you have not gained any points or anything anyway. In this case, it is way faster to just restart as outlined above.
so, is it worth it or should we guitarists wait on version 2.0 when they work out all the ui and other kinks? will we semi-exp/exp guitarists really enjoy this...or is it more of a gimmick for teaching noobs guitar?
It's fantastic for noobs. A semi/exp guitarist could use it as a fun practice tool and definitely pick up things. A veteran guitar player will probably find it frustrating, because like crazydave said you can probably play all these songs anyway and trying to match up strings to color can be challenging at first. That said the mini games would still be good practice/fun for an experienced guitarist.
