Yeah, except that I've decided on 360 :D

When I really think about it, DVDs look good enough for me...at least for the time being. By the time I really give a crap about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, one of them will have "won" the battle and the prices will be down as well. Right now I'd sort of be doing just to do it...my TV only supports up to 720p/1080i anyway.

I was also thinking that I'd need a wireless adapter ($100) but with the way I'm setting up my apartment it won't be necessary after all, and $4 a month for LIVE is beyond reasonable if you consider all you get with it.

All my friends have 360's and they're constantly online. I'm moving to a side of town where none of them live so it'd be nice to have that connection to them at least. They say it's what kept them together when everyone went away to college :p

So anyway, I'm going with the 360 and now I just need to find Rock Band. I looked at 3 different Wal Marts tonight and found nothing but PS3 versions. The irony is that when I was looking for Rock Band on PS2, I saw plenty of 360 versions. I think I'm cursed.

don't care about games or don't care about first person shooters? the only "games" xbox owners keep bumping their chests and scream about is their small list of fps games (bioshock, gears of war and halo 3). almost every game outside of that genre is multi platform.

the only exclusive i was looking forward to on the xbox was lost odyssey and that game flopped in japan. if a japanese made rpg is not good enough for the japanese, it isn't good enough for me. i'll wait for ff13 and ff13 versus, maybe white knight story will be good. given level 5's track record, it probably will be.

metal gear solid 4 is going to rock and gran turismo 5 is going to be awesome. i'm not sure how killzone 2 will turn out, but the game looks freaking gorgeous + the ragdoll effects = win.

I live on the southeast side, work (and will be moving next week to) the west side (I-10 @ 610).

    Any particular store?

    I just remembered a question I had.

When you play online, and let's say one of the other users is the singer, do you hear his voice or the original vocal track? Or is it set in options?

I ask because if I'm going to go all out on a song I'd at least like if other people could hear it and appreciate it rather than just watching my score go up.

the walmart off 1960 and 290. you exit on highway 6/1960 from 290. take a right at the light and the walmart is a minute or two down the road on the right side. if you're going to come up here and pick one up, i'll double check again tonight or tomorrow morning and let you know if their still there so you don't waste your gas.

i don't know if you hear the original vocal track, but you definitely don't hear their voice. i only played online a few times and my memory is hazy/poor.

not to interrupt your sony fanboy rant but by "if you don't care about the games" i didn't mean to imply that the ps3 doesn't have good ones. i mean if there's nothing exclusive to the 360 that peaks your interest don't choose it over the playstation.

but if all your friends have a 360, for sure go with that, playing online with your buds is always the best experience.

as for rock band online, you definitely can't hear someones voice if they're the singer, you just get their points. since it's so adjustable during the regular mode i don't understand why they cut it out during online play especially since you can hear the missed notes of all the other instruments. kinda sucks but i've yet to sing so it doesn't particularly bother me.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense that you can't hear it. My first thought was, well, I'm sure it takes a lot more bandwidth to broadcast raw audio over Live than it does button pushes...but Halo and Gears of War and damn near every other game has voice chatting while you play, so that shouldn't really be a deterrent. Perhaps they are worried that if there is even a half a second of lag, it will make the whole song sound like **** since the vocals won't match the rest of the song. If you are chatting in Halo 3, a bit of lag for the voice chat won't make much difference. It would have to be dead on for Rock Band, though.

Are you sure about the singing over the internet? The only reason I ask is because I know there is a setting to turn the real vocal track all the way down so you only hear yourself sing. Could you possibly do the same for playing online as well?

I think it's alot easier to find these days. I walked right into EB Games the day after Xmas and they had 3 boxes (which I bought one) and was shocked Fry's had a few as well the same day having not seen one throughout December.

Awesome game though!! To bad I'm laid up after knee surgery from Wed. so I havent played since the night before.

Well, I'm a bit disappointed in the fact that you can't hear the singer online. Like I said before, none of my friends are on the side of town I'm moving to and regardless of that they're not the Guitar Hero / Rock Band type for the most part. Therefore, a lot of my time will probably be spent online rather than in person with a group and I really wish the voice could be heard because I think that's going to be my favorite "instrument". Oh well.

As for availability, I have looked at the following places...

    Gamestop
    another Gamestop
    Target
    Circuit City
    Walmart (x2)
    another Walmart (x2)
    yet another Walmart (x2)
    Fry's
    Best Buy
    Game Crazy

That was when I was PS2 hunting, but I saw some 360 Rock Bands at a couple of the Wal Marts. This was New Year's Day, but as of last night all I could find are PS3 versions. In fact, Wal Mart and Fry's were the only places I saw ANY version of the game or even a display area. It's almost like the other stores aren't even carrying it. I guess I'll just look again tonight.

You know, I'm not so sure about the voice thing online. I haven't actually played yet on XBox Live, but my son has. I was watching him the other day and he was the one singing. Afterwards, the guy he was playing with said he couldn't hear him singing at all. And that with us having the setting turned up so our own voice is about all you hear. However, during the playing of the song, the other guy on the line was playing the drums, and we COULD hear him singing along to the song (he sucked) as they played. Maybe there is a way to do it.

ok guys, this isn't really that complicated...here's how it works

when you play online in a Band, by default the vocalist can NOT be heard singing while you're in the middle of a song...no matter what Vocal settings you have (those only affect local play, or the vocalist's TV/setup himself)

guitarists, bassists, and drummers can be heard chatting IF they have their headset hooked up

however...the vocalist can 'force' on voicechat through the professional mic, in the middle of a song. what you do is hold down either trigger button on the xbox360 controller that is tied to your mic. it's a half-assed jimmy rig solution, but it's the best you can do for now if you want other online players to hear how you're singing. of course, it could piss those other players off too =P

LOL, what??? i've said like twice in this thread to buy a ps3 and make no claims that the 360 is the better system. you on the other hand, flip a lid if anyone mentions the ps3 negatively.

Finally got it. In a strange turn of events, Circuit City had all 360 versions and no PS3 versions. Can't wait to play it tonight, but I won't be going online until I move and get my internet set up in a couple of weeks. Bummer.

Thanks for all the helpful info everybody.
