For me, it was. The Buffalo game slowly unfolded, and as an Oiler fan, you could see what was happening, granted, it was slow and painful. Last night, we were all a split second away from going crazy, and in that split second, it was lost. I compare it to watching a relative die slowly to watching a relative die unexpectedly. They both hurt, but it hurts worse when you are not prepared for it.

This game reminds me of the Spurs/Lakers series two years ago when Derrick Fisher put in the infamous ".4" as far as heartbreak goes. I can't believe that Lidge made such a mistake. The real mistake though was of course walking Edmonds. I mean -- Edmonds' 3-1 pitch wasn't even CLOSE to the strike zone. Since it seems like the Cardinals were destined to win that game -- I don't think it would have mattered if Albert was walked. Sanders would have just come up and hit a triple or grand slam and it would have been the same result. The good news of course is that the series isn't over. Game 6 is a must win though.
i was about to post the same thing before i read your post. it was a long night. It was like reliving that moment when pujols hit that homerun over and over again all night long
btw ..i like Lidge's attitude after the game, he didn't so much guarantte we would win the next one, but said something along those lines ..also said he can't wait to get back out there
ps btw i felt worse for Bidge than I did any other person in Houston .....when they kept showing our dugout, everyone was smiling, jumping around and just waiting for Lidge to end it ....and there was Bidge, arm over half his face with an intense stare towards the field ...almost like he was willing Brad to finish the game ...he knew it wasn't over .

This was Stockton's shot X 100. The worst thing about the last few games is that that "aura of invincibility" surrounding Brad Lidge is now gone. They had the better offense, claimed they had equal starting pitching, but no matter what, it was indisputed that once that thing got into the 9th, it was over. Brad Lidge owned the Cardinals. That is now gone. I don't know how we or he recovers from this. P.S: I love how everyone realized the BBS is back up and is now venting 12 hours later to ease the pain, as if it just happened.
Wow! I must say, if the Astros themselves have the mindset of a lot of the fans posted, they are indeed in trouble. But, I don't know how you can count this team out. They freaking came back from 15 under .500, overcoming every obstacle and 'season ending' situation along the way to be up 3-1 on arguably the best team in the league. This team has the mental makeup and veteran leadership to overcome this. We all said that the Cards have to win all three games against Pettitte, Oswalt and Clements and how hard that would be. We all thought this series would go 6 or 7. Nothing has changed with one swing of the bat. This series and the Astros are due for a blowout. Astros 8-2 win, Game 6. Book it.
FWIW, I have always assumed this series would go 6 games. I had a feeling that we would lose game 4 w/ Backe pitching, but that was a bonus that put us in an ideal position to take the series. So coming into game 5, I pretty much assumed that with Carpenter pitching, the cards would find a way to win that one. (Although I never envisioned the scenario that unfolded in the 9th). We now have the best pitcher in baseball going for us on Wednesday. We are so fortunate to have our stopper lined up to shut those bats up. There is no other hurler I would want to take that mound. We have a full day off for the players to recover and for Garner to come up with a kick ass speech to get the good guys going. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have today off. If we had to play today, I would be actually worried. Luckily, our guys have a short memory. This is without a doubt the most resilient bunch of stros I have ever witnessed. We have our bats coming around. Lane and Ensberg are gonna come alive against Mulder. If we can drop 4 runs on Carpenter, then I like our chances. For all those that think this team is gonna fold, just remember one thing - "Momentum is only as good as your next starting pitcher" - and we got our best going Wednesday. This team is tough as nails. Everyone knew this was gonna be tough. Just remember game 2 against the Braves. After that game, the media was going on and on about momentum shifts and what not. Who came in and put all that noise to rest in game 3? Roy O, that's who. BRING EM ON!
