My understanding of criminal Justice reform, including what was passed by Trump, is to reduce overcrowding and over incarceration in our prison systems by reducing the amount of non violent and first time felons held while focusing on violent criminals. Holding someone with no history of violence for years for having a few grams of mar1juana is both cruel and excessive but it also takes resources away that could be better spent holding violent criminals. I don’t think even the most liberal would say that people who spent years molesting children should go free.
I'm a left leaning moderate and I think most left people I know would want these guys locked away forever if not killed. The issue many find with the current syatem is that it often punishes innocent people out of expediency or over zealousness.
