I've been watching these on the Adultswim website, better quality: http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a25059520b3d89e0120b49221340025 From what I gather based on some of the things said, the continuity of this picks up form the 80s cartoons. These aren't kids cartoons though. Right off the bat 2 very popular characters are killed off. The overall plot is kind of lame IMHO: Spoiler Cobra wants all the world's governments to hand control of their nations to Cobra...." I would imagine that this would have made for a better movie than what is about to be released this summer. It's written by Warren Ellis, a comic book writer from England. I remember reading that he had no interest in GI JOE before getting the job, but I'm still surprised that he chose to go with the 80's cartoon as a jumping off point instead of the comic books.
I agree with you that Resolute will probably be better than the upcoming movie. The trailer did not impress me at all and definitely did not make me want to watch it. Resolute has elements of Larry Hama's storyline from Marvel, so it's not entirely based on the old cartoon. It would have been better though if the writer had based Resolute entirely on Larry Hama's work.
Just got done watching all of these. Awesome. Cobra still can't shoot straight. When are the new ones starting?
