Okay, I'm considering getting an apartment for my senior year of college, but haven't decided yet. Trying to figure up some costs.

My question is has anyone ever rented furniture somewhere and if so was it insanely expensive?

I ask because I don't really want to buy a bunch of stuff to drag back to Texas after the school year and the fact that I will only be in the apartment for 9 months and not sure exactly what my living arrangements will be right after graduation.

I have more to ask later, but right now I better go to class so that I will have a graduation.

I rented some furniture in college - prices were reasonable, I wanna say I was spending about 100-120 a month for it all, couch, chair, dinning room, bedroom etc

quailty was real poor, but it served its purpose

maybe you outa go to Ikea and get some of their cheap furniture.

Or Walmart, they have really cheap entertainment centers and desks etc. (ofcourse they are mostly particle board)

Screw renting. Be thrifty. You'd be amazed at what you can build with milk crates.

Go up in may when kids are moving out and get great deals. store it at a storage place and get it in sept. amazing deals on big stuff like dressers, sofas, etc.

Between ads in the paper (student and regular) and second-hand stores, I furnished my college apartment on the cheap pretty easily. You can buy pieces at Ikea if you have more cash. College furniture is college furniture, my thought was/is to fill whatever needs you have as cheap as possible, cause you're going to replace it when you get a real job anyway.

Word to the wise, forget furniture, it's overrated unnecessary, expensive to buy, a hassle to move, etc. etc. Just go buy a sleeping bag. Furniture is a female creation designed to domesticate and enslave men.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

mc mark.. I'd love a furnished apartment, but for some reason I'm having trouble finding one. The places I call none seem to offer it.

    As far as other expenses.

I'm guessing around 90 for cable interent and Tv....

    Water around 20 or so....

I have no idea how much electricity would be for a 1 bedroom apartment. 60 bucks or so?

Don't they have those discarded furniture by other students on the streets? Just pick those up and there is your furniture!;)

Second the Ikea post. You can get an apartment full of furniture for well under $1000.

And the 'Trading Spaces' type chicks will love you for it. :D

Ah, dumpster diving. What an adventure! If you dive often enough and long enough, you might actually come out with furniture that matches!

I didn't have to dumpster dive though... My parents basically pushed me out of the house with all my childhood furniture, which I hope to replace, should I ever get a real job.

Very true. I personally throw away a bed, a sofa and serveral coffee tables when I moved. They were in pretty decent shape.

I also advocate the buying used from students or other people approach. Don't know where you're at, but I often use Craigslist.org for my housing/furniture needs away from home.

You're in college so inflatable items ought to be available for a reasonable rate.

Just get about 50 bean bags and pile them all over your apartment randomly.
