Doing a lot of renting from the local Hastings (long story- not into Netflix- work at home- have to get out- renting from a store is preferred)- they have a huge selection of shows, and I know most of the dramas, but not sure about the newer comedies. Any really funny ones? Here are the ones I've rented so far:

    1. Veep- may be one of the funniest of them all. So profane, but hilarious.

    2. Curb Your Enthusiasm- not new, but never saw it before yesterday. Also hilarious- what guy doesn't know how to change a tire?

    3. Cougar Town- pretty funny - a little over the top, but good.

    4. Californication- almost profane, but pretty good.

    Others?

By new, I really mean stuff that's come out in the last 5-6 years- I haven't really kept up with TV since about 2007-2008. Sorry for the misleading title. So, anything from, say, 2008 to now is "new" to me.

    FX has great comedies...

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - funniest comedy on TV
    Louie
Wilfred - has it's moments, but hasn't been as good as the first season
    The League

The only "mainstream" comedies I like are...

How I Met Your Mother - although Ted can be annoying
    Modern Family
    Brooklyn 99

    Arrested Development on Netflix.

I miss The Office and 30 Rock :-(

Dog Bites Man which ran on Comedy Central only in 2006 was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Zach Galifianakis is in it. They probably won't have it at your local video store or any store for that matter. You can download it though.

Parks and Recreation isn't "new" but it is easily one of, if not THE funniest show on television.

How is Californication almost profane? That's the heart of the show, man!

Californication is a great one... forgot about it because it hasn't been on in so long. Runkel alone is worth the watch.

House of Lies with Don Cheadle which is also on Showtime is great too.

This is another one I missed. Such a great cast.

    "DAMMIT JERRY!"

EDIT: Another one that isn't a traditional comedy but that I find absolutely hilarious is the UK Top Gear. 19 of 20 series are on Netflix... have fun! If nothing else, watch the special/road trip episodes.

I couldn't make it through the first episode of The Goldbergs, did it get better? I love the 80s so I wanted to like it.

To those posting comedies and qualifying it by saying they are not new, the OP's list is far from new. Not sure why the word 'new' was used in the title.

You have to understand- when you're in your 40s, new is anything in the last several years. I grew up watching All in the Family, Threes Company, etc. So, for me, the "new" threshold, since I haven't really watched much TV since 2008, would be about that.
