OK, I know I'm not the only one in here watching the game on a Saturday night in front of my computer. Especially with all the alumni of both schools. Who's with me?

(hoping somehow, as unreasonable as it may be, that this will not be just another "body bag" game, and that UT will be in a letdown phase... better hurry up and post this before they start scoring though :( )

Go Rice! I like to root for football schools at top schools that feel the pain of being bad year in and year out :)

I got a phone call from a friend saying that she was at Austin at DR-M Stadium...with her other "co workers"... Right.

I lost interest after UT was up 14-0, and learned that Selvin Young was not playing.

I was hoping he would be playing and would be running for 500 yards and seven touchdowns.

That way, I can live through him. For her.

It's hard when you're not even able to admit many of the potential recruits... and, of course, it's not like they're joining a "winning tradition". What we get are smaller guys from small towns, pretty bright, great guys from everything I hear, but not a match for the huge guys most schools are putting on the field.

I miss the days when this matchup could have been somewhat competitive. It doesn't help that schools which have made it into the BCS get a slice of that pie and have about 10x the budget of (what do they call them, mid-majors?). Among other things, you get nicer facilities and perks which attract the recruits who have a choice. That plus the factors above (which have been around longer) seems to have killed any chance to make this game interesting.

Many Rice fans just don't get their hopes up anymore. They don't get emotionally "into" football season. Some alumni show up at home games to drink beer in the alumni tent and never even make it into the stadium. The student body has skewed recently toward the type who don't care about watching sports. There seems to be some unnecessary tension between "jocks" and "intellectuals" there... and in other places these days... not sure why. (I'm getting too philosophical. I'd better stop now.)

(by the way, when we blame the "BCS", we're not including Vanderbilt... they were just luckier than we were when the conferences aligned.)

The SEC loves us. We keep the GPA up, and allow for some blowout wins (however maybe not this year)

Isabel.. yeah I know what you mean. We are in much the same position you are except that we were a founding member of the SEC (back when we were really good at football).. believe it or not our overall football record is still more wins than losses..

We've had opportunities where we even had the good players want to come here, but they didn't have the grades to get in..

vandy.. rice.. etc wouldn't admit quite a few of the players that make up the top football teams.. but that's how I want it to be..

I root for Rice becaue they won't sacrifice academics for winning at football..

off subject but I met up with one of the rice associate athletic director this summer who also went to vandy..so i root for them more now that I know someone over there..

i push for vandy to play rice in every sport possible.. especially football and baseball... I like to see some teams who try to win the right away match up..

mateo.. no joke there.. without us I don't even know if the overall grad rate of the SEC would pass 50%.. actually it may be less than 50% even with us.. i know a heck of a lot of the SEC schools are less tha 50% for fb

Why do they keep showing only the Longhorn band? Our band is there too... or at least is supposed to be.

Posting on an NBA team fan site and watching meaningless college and you have all these relationship problems. If a man can't appreciate a woman like that then you aren't the problem, they are.

There are 16,003 members here and probably 20 of them are women. So that means Izzy is the dream woman for 15,983 males! :D
