The aliens gave us the seed technology to build all these transistors. Before this, technology in the world was going nowhere. If you don't believe it, I can provide a Youtube video.

I had a woah moment when all the work I've done could be contained in a flashdrive instead of a suitcase with stacks of papers and books inside.

I had the Bible (King James Version) on PDF version which I had illegally downloaded from Pirate Bay. When my Pastor saw this, he smashed my jump drive into a thousand pieces saying I had illegally obtained God's word. Now I have to travel to church with a very bulky Bible, instead of just a Netbook. Not very happy with this outcome.

Seriously though, i'm typing this post on a hunk of plastic and metal connected to nothing, and people hundreds of mile away are reading it. The human brain is an amazing thing.

This. The technology isn't what's so impressive to me, it's the fact that we have a brain that can produce such feats.

I think what's truly amazing/mysterious is whoever designed the building blocks of all this stuff for us to figure out. Atoms and their properties, cells, DNA...

Whats also amazing is we've done most of this after the 20th century. Pre-20th century was still a crude in human life. Not saying the people werent happy with how life was. But we've added 30 YEARS to our age expectancy since 1900. There's STILL a handful of people alive born in the 1800's! Just to show how its such a short period of time ago compared to overall history time frames.

Was gonna get on a big dystopian, alarmist chicken little rant in a D&D thread about it... Technology is grand. But I personally have about as LESS trust in scientific institutions as I do with government, big business, media, advocacy groups, religious organization, "big pharma", and any other authority. We let science off the hook since they're the brightest, most convincing, make the most coolest s*** and can fix all the bad s***.

But when do we start asking questions on how much "convenience" and "efficiency" we really need or is really relevant to how we live?

As in, for example scientists thinking is male/female sex is an "inefficient process", and women can go to the clinic for artificial insemination for much much greater odds of conception (and its an unregulated industry). When do we tell these people we dont WANT that crap want to bang our darn wives?! lol. All for efficiency and convenience. Especially at the bio and geo engineering of things, need some good regulation and foresight to integrate all the technological progress and scientific advancement into our lives as smooth as possible.
