I am trying to estimate whether it would be profitable to import some things as part of a business from Europe, within the EU. Does anybody have any experience shipping from Europe?

Specifically, I’m interested in costs for the cheapest methods (like ocean freight) as well as customs duties. General estimates or experiences would be wonderful, as I’m only trying to determine whether it is worth pursuing the idea, or whether transportation and importation would make it unprofitable. The items would be relatively heavy for their size.

    Thanks.

Generally shipping drugs by freight is a good idea. There is much less security on these shipping channels. Especially the ones coming from Europe. Shipping channels from Latin America are inspected carefully, but the risk level is still lower than most other methods.

But the problem lies within the time delay and the possibility of the product going bad. That is why you see many people smuggling via private jets and such. It really depends on how many kilo's of what you have and of what product.

    lol...

I knew when I started this thread that the first response I'd get would be something like this.

    You people are so predictable!

What country are you shipping from? I know shipping from Italy is a pain in the ass because of all the bureaucracy that goes on...

Actually, Italy and Denmark so far...

It's interesting you mentioned troubles with Italy because I noticed an atypical notice in the terms of sale that they are "... not responsible for any eventual restrictions on export."

As noted this is atypical language. I guess it is there for a reason.

In the initial stages, you wouldn't be bringing over enough product to fill a Container?

Would you try to have various lots from diiferent parts of Europe consolidated at one shipping point to fill a Container?

I just got back to the States after living in Milan, Italy for 5 months, and from what I noticed, there aren't too many choices for shipping internationally. Aside from FedEx and UPS which rip you off, the only real option is Poste Italiane. I know they ship internationally for businesses as well...

Actually that's a pretty good idea. I'm going to look into it.

    Thanks.

To clarify, they are items in auction houses (like Christie's type auction houses, not eBay) so it would be difficult to fill a container in one pass but there might be other economies of scale, etc. and EU integration might make transport within the EU easy to a member state with favorable export conditions.
