Yao's soft touch is from practice and practice and practice. Shaq and Wallace never learned how to shoot the ball. Perhaps this is why USA basketball is in so much trouble. American players don't learn the basics and wonder why they get beaten by other countries whose squads are filled with noname "nonathletes."
