The last time one of these threads came up and I signed up for Stuff and Maxim was atleast 2 years ago. It was a 6 month free subscription. I get called every 6 months to resubscribe and I tell them I just got a 6 month online subscription that expired a long time ago. They still send them every month to me despite my honesty. I don't know why they do, but they do. So for all those interested, a 2 year subscription really means a lifetime subscription of free Maxim and Stuff. Apparently they don't care if you pay or not.

I've been getting them for what seems like ever too. No calls. They just keep coming.

I've read that these and other magazines make more money from advertisers than they do subscribers. And the more "subscribers" they have the more they can charge their advertisers, so it makes sense. Here's a list of magazines I'm getting free right now:

    Blender
    Stuff
    Maxim
Golfweek (I haven't received it yet, but have signed up for it)
    PC Photo
    Parents
    Baby Talk
    American Baby
    Golf Magazine
    Giant
    Better Homes and Garden
    ESPN Magazine
    The Sporting News
Blackbook (another I signed up for and haven't received)

I've gotten most by going to Fat Wallet. Look under FREE STUFF in the FORUM there and you should be good to go.

Another good site is Free Biz Mag .

Mags do this to build up circ counts to sell to advertisers. The money isn't in the four bucks you spend on the magazine at the newsstand -- it's on how many eyes see each issue's ads.

I wish Hustler and Penthouse would realize the benefit of giving away free subscriptions. :)

On a similar note, though it will probably never happen, I would be ecstatic to get a free subscription to The Economist.

Good evening Sir, my name is Steve. I come from a rough area. I used to be addicted to crack but now I am off it and trying to stay clean. That is why I am selling magazine subscriptions.

The Economist is too expensive. I've read methods of using frequent flier miles to subscribe, but that probably doesn't work anymore.

Yeah, the best deal I've heard for a year's subscription is around $75, and that's ~$50 off the retail price. Were I not a cheap college student, it would be well worth the $75 price.

I looked for Scientific American too but no luck... :(

Eh, Maxim, Stuff, EGM and Tennis Magazine are enough for me. What a great site!
