It sure seems to me like Barnes is running the point at least part of the time he is in the game. I seem to see him bringing the ball up and initiating from the top some of the time. I have been impressed with his handle more than anything because you wouldn't really expect him to have much of one.

If we can't get Barnes, howabout Mickael Pietrus? :)

Oh man that would be a dream come true. I have been crazy about this guy since I saw him play a couple times at the end of the year last season. I totally wish we had him. Trader Luther for him:

    1. Bigger than luther

    2. Quicker than luther

    3. Can shoot 3's pretty decently

    4. Can finish

    5. Can rebound like a PF

    6. Most importantly, a much better defender than luther

    Agreed.

But Pietrus has the basketball IQ of my wife. You can see it when he gets the ball in his hands. The best defense against him is to put a man defender on him, cover everybody else and force him to have to put the ball on the floor and do something with it. He can't do it. He constantly makes dumb playes. Now, if he's just running the wing and either jamming or throwing up the shot, fine. But, if he is pressured and has to make decisions, forget it. There's a reason why SJax is starting and Pietrus is still getting bench minutes.

But we dont want him to be handling the ball. And he can do something with the ball in his hands. He has a pretty quick first step and I have seen him blow by people. But yes he is useless if he is dribbling and not at full speed. However, he will just cut or swing out for the 3 so we will be fine.

I just think Barnes will be signed by GS this offseason. And they were trying to shop Pietrus earlier this season. So I say we have the best shot at Pietrus.

Mo Pete would be ok. Mihm isn't needed. Rashard won't come here and neither will Bibby.

    My FA targets would be:

    ideal: guys in bold.

    1. pg: Francis (if buy out); Mo Williams; Bibby

    2. pf: Magloire; Miki Moore; Mcdyess

    3. 6th man: Grant Hill; Gerald Wallace; Matt Carroll; Stackhouse; Barnes; Posey

Don't just name random players that sound good. You have to first ask yourself if he'll fit in JVG's system. Look what happened to Bonzi. I'll tell you who JVG would love to have...

    James Posey

He's a hard-nosed defender, maybe even a little dirty. He can also make threes with consistency. If anything else, he'll give us more depth and athleticism behind Battier at the SF spot.

If anyone is against acquiring Posey, let me ask you a simple question... would you rather have James Posey or Kirk Snyder? Bring back the former Rocket!

What about Jason Kapono? I can't say that I've ever watched a Heat game and focused on his defensive attributes. But we all know what he's capable of from the arc. His height would have him coming off the bench at the shooting guard/small forward spot...a replacement for Bonzi on the roster quite possibly. I wonder how much money he'll sign for with his rookie contract expiring this year...and leading the league in 3 point shooting.

I read in an interview with Pat Riley that the Heat want to focus on acquiring a point guard during the offseason, which in turn may allow pending free agents Posey and Kapono to slip away.

    Thoughts?

I think a better question is
Where will our pick go and what would we pick. Given the deep draft we could get a PF who can play in this draft and possibly play off the bench. The PG we probably won't get since the PG depth is low in this draft. I think this will mean we sit quiet on the free agent market this year. Because the two PGs available are out of our reach, Mo Williams and Billups. I really don't see anyone trading our role players. Honestly.

Mo Pete, Mo Pete. I am such a big fan of him. He will be a nice upgrade from Luther Head.

Bonzi would have done well in JVG's system if he was not out of shape during the summer.

Posey is also my top pick in the free agent market. It is a realistic signing (we are not going to get Chauncey) and I think he will fit perfectly.

My second option is Bonzi. :)

i will omit PFs, 1 because chances are you wont get a great one for MLE. 2, because i think that position needs to be addressed in the draft...a guy like millsaps comes to mind.

imo, the rockets need to look at a guard in FA. maybe not necessarily a 'pg', but a guy who can play at the point effectively, sort of like sura who wasnt a true pg but could certainly handle the duties.

    2007 UFA & RFA

A list of unrestricted and restricted free agents that you guys can droll over.

Bibby would be pricey but a great pickup. If not, maybe Ridnour. Ford?
