How stupid can you be to pick Francis over Drexler. What makes someone choose a player who has done absolutely nothing in his career over someone who has done so much. Common sense has Francis even made the playoffs? Now these clowns are voting for Francis over Hakeem. It must be these young back pack wearing crossover dribbling fans who know nothing about the game.

Well I was bored so I figured I would check out the forums on this board other then the hangout and I realized hey people do talk about the rockets on this board too. Oh yea by the way I have 2 reasons why: 1. Too many kids on the web these days who dont remember Drexler. 2. Drexler didnt play here for very long and to some (morons) was over shadowed by Hakeem. (they were equally great) Now the fact that Hakeem only leads Francis by a slim margin is just sad. Hakeem was the heart and soul of the Rockets for 17 seasons.

Lewis: In case you hadn't noticed, the Road to Rocketsville is a popularity contest. Some of the kids voting in it (the main demographic, to be sure, of the Rockets.com site) probably aren't old enough to clearly remember the championship years. It would be like me trying to base my decision on Elvin Hayes vs. Clyde Drexler and be unbiased. Since I never saw Hayes actually play, it would be hard for me to vote against Drexler even though I know Hayes is very likely equally as good. Glide was awesome but the fact that Francis has done this well bodes well for the future success of the franchise. By the way, what in the hell does "corn on the cob" mean when describing a joke? That has to be the oddest thing I've ever read.
You also have to take into account that Clyde spent a majority of his professional years NOT in a Houston uniform. By the time he got to Houston, he was past his prime. He was still great, but not the same as he was in his best years in Portland. Also, let me echo Jeff in a way and say that Elvin Hayes and Moses Malone probably should have gotten a lot more love, but they were just too distant a memory to get proper recognition. We see Steve out on the court, and know that he's the cornerstone of our franchise today, and also know that if we're ever going to reclaim past glory, it'll be on his shoulders.
Screw Clyde. I personally was one of his biggest fans when he was in Portland. Then he came to H-town, and i grew to hate him. Sure he helped us win a championship and all, but from what i've seen from him as a person, I don't like him one bit. Him and his annoying BBQ, how he instigated conflict with Barkley, and how he quit as the Cougars Coach. Do any of you remember after Sports Sunday when they had the Coach Drexler show and he didn't even show up? I feel the same way about Isiah Thomas...the guy quit after being the Raptors GM for like a year to go into broadcasting. Also Zeke "shut down" MJ in the all-star game once because he felt he got disrespected by him earlier. It's all childish in my opinion, and one of the main reasons he was left off the original Dream Team. He should have never had his number retired. Barkley should never get his retired too. Retiring one's number should be reserved for people with a long tenure of service, not for just 3 years on the Rockets. I'm probably gonna get bashed for this...but oh well. True, I don't know Drexler personally...but I just never liked him.
hoopgod13, Your post makes no sense. Think about it first you say you were personally one of Clyde's biggest fans. At the end of your post you said you never liked Clyde. You have very stupid reasons for your hatred of Clyde, None of which have anything to do with basketball. What do want to be Clyde's buddy where he calls you on a regular basis and hangs out with you. Screw Clyde is petty and uncalled for. When you start worrying about things that have nothing to with the actual basketball game than you should stop watching.
Clyde, no doubt about it! I always got this warm comforting feeling when the ball was in Clydes hands. It always felt like he was our safe zone. He was such a smart mature player.
i always got the exact opposite feeling like "holy crap don't do anything stupid like drive recklessly and throw it away." don't get me wrong, he was great and he helped us win a championship so his perceived stupidity on my part obviously didn't hinder him too much. i always get the sense that i felt about clyde the way some people feel about francis and mobley these days. obviously help the team a lot but still make mistakes. hell i probably feel more comfortable when mobley has the ball than i did when clyde had it. and i still want him to hold the ball for 3 more ****ing seconds in game six against utah. just 3 more clyde is all i ask. shoot it backwards from halfcourt for all i care, just let OT be the worst we do. ahh memories.
