I have been waiting to read his blog entry on tonight's game and then I found this "Many of you have heard that the Chronicle underwent some deep staff reductions today...I have, however, felt sick since Fran called..." on Jonathan's new blog. Link: http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2009/03/rockets_and_jazz_again_the_mor.html Just want to say many thanks to Fran Blinebury for all the good work he has put up over the years. Many fans were unhappy about his consistent slashing TMac but now it seems that he just got it earlier than most people.
As a person who also got laid off recently I can feel sorry the the guy. Hope he finds himself some honest work somewhere. As for the T-Mac stuff. I dont think he "got it" quicker than most. I think he "had it in" for T-Mac earlier than most. And things just turned ugly for T-Mac that made Blinebury look to be in the right. He often took it to the biggest extreme to make a point/bash against McGrady, even if he had to make some huge leaps to get there. Thats why I didnt respect him as a journalist.
wow, pretty shocking. me and fran disagreed many times on his live blog, but i respect his opinion and his abilities as a blogger. his writing style is fantastic and his commentary is insightful. he was my go-to guy for Rockets commentary on the web, sorry to see him go.
I'll admit to missing the chance to remind everyone about Fran picking the Lakers to win the Western Conference in '85-'86. Never passed an opportunity here to do it in a thread. Fran, I'll bury the hatchet. I'm sure you are a member here. You should "come out of the closet" and take a bow. Some of your columns were readable. A few were even better than that. Maybe.
It's never good to hear about most people losing their job, particularly in this economy. That being said, Fran was an embittered jerk who seemed like he hated sports. It seemed like he was reduced to watching games on tv and getting in BS discussions with morons in his chat room. We got thousands of people around here who do that for free.
Oh wow. A lot of people here griped about him, but I enjoyed his columns. Best of luck in whatever you're doing, Fran.
Don't know what to say. I mean I'm not fond of the guy, but at the same time I'm not fond of Lakers or Celtics either, but that doesn't mean I want them gone. I guess sometimes you just need a bias critic, no matter what the scenario or profession is.
Guys calling him biased, probably because he didn't think the Rockets would get any further than they did (and he was usually right)... This is sad, I sent a lot of stupid comments to Fran with the intention of annoying him, but only because I liked him for being a jerk. I didn't expect my comments to be posted, it was fine Not having that is sad to me, I'll legitimately miss him. The more I read of him, the more he was right about things. I've been wondering about those "vacations in Hawaii", I hope at least his health is fine
