Does this guy ever quit? Um, Fran, we got it the first 10 times. These are exerpts from his column about the Mavericks in Thursday's Chron...

But the truth is Dallas is really a throwback to the past, before the days of the mind-numbing isolation play and the stultifying look of spacing around the 3-point line simply to launch more bombs.

In other words, they are not the Rockets.

    ----

The Mavs are everything the Rockets claim they want to be, but are not. They make flamboyant plays, but with a purpose.

Unlike the Rockets, they don't just talk about getting out and into a full-court running game. They do it.

How is it that LaFrentz can get the ball off the glass, turn and make an outlet pass, but Kelvin Cato can't?

How is it that Nash or Van Exel can find the middle of the floor on a 3-on-2 break and make the proper decision that results in a dunk or a layup, but Steve Francis can't?

Francis has more raw talent in a couple of fingers than Nash in his whole body. But Nash is a point guard, a real point guard, who is constantly learning and improving in the position.

    ----

The Mavs give you a laser light show. The Rockets give you excuses.

The Mavs are great to watch, without a doubt. But, holy flerking schnidt, Fran, give it a rest. The Rockets are done for the season you freak.

    ----

By the way, I ran across this from the Houston Press' News Hostage column. He is always drilling Fran for his piss poor writing skills. Funny.

There's little new to say about Tiger Woods. And if there were, we're guessing Chron columnist Fran Blinebury isn't the guy to say it.

But that hasn't stopped him. For those of you keeping score at home, here's the latest update.

In the past few years, Blinebury has compared Woods to: Elvis Presley, Orville and Wilbur Wright, Michelangelo, Sir Edmund Hillary, Secretariat, "a modern-day Arthur come to pull the sword from the stone," Yoda, Lennon and McCartney, and "a Swiss watchmaker or a surgeon. Yet full of poetry, listening to his own muse."

While he's at it, Blinebury has described Woods's competitors as: "so many Evel Knievels riding their outmatched motorbikes over the edge into oblivion," having "the vacant stare of POWs following a long interrogation," ready to "crumble like bleu cheese on a salad," "a well-dressed collection of Cowardly Lion clones beating a hasty retreat," "spending more time in the bunker than Eva Braun" and "golf's version of haggis, the Scottish dish that consists of ground-up, unspeakable animal parts."

More updates to come. We fear.

Yet another Simpson's quote. That one, by the way, is on of the funniest lines in the history of television IMO. When Krang finds out about his baby maggie, "Holy flerking schnidt!"

Wow, Jeff really works hard. Think some new ideas. This complaint of Rudy & CD critics being "repeatitive" is itself too repeatitive.;)

I have league pass and very rarely did I watch the Rockets live, I mostly watched them on tape. If the Mavs,Bucks,Magic,Kings,Clipps or some of those teams were playing, I would watch them instead of the Rockets. Watching the some of these teams and then watching the Rockets, you as a possible paying fan get a appreciation of good basketball vs poor bb. i don't always agree with Fran, but I do agree with him sometimes because some of what he says is the same things that posters used to try to drag me through the mudd with. The bill this team as young and exciting, but really its nothing really exciting about this team at all.

I understand that we don't have the likes of Dirk,Finley, or some of those players, but how is it that the Magic has 1 star player in McGrady and they play at a much higher level than we do? People can say and talk about what they want to, but Indiana has the 2nd youngest team in the league, yet they play at a higher level than the Rockets. Its not like the Rockets have a bunch of slow ,lumbering players, yet thats the way they play. They play as though they have a premiere post player that can get a good shot everytime down the floor. Instead of taking advantage of the open court, the Rockets run from it like they're scared. Rudy's coaching staff should be looking at a team like the Mavericks and see that you can run without to's. I'm not saying Nelson is a better coach than Rudy, its just very poor basketball to run 20 secs off the clock every possession and expect to be successful without a reliable post pressence. Its just not good basketball and it looks much worse when you see a game like tonight played.

you seem to equate more fast breaking as automatically a higher level of playing. nice to see that great higher level of playing take indiana right to the 8th seed in the east. nice to see that higher level of playing take orlando to i believe a 44-38 record in the east. you don't think sans major injury problems we couldn't have done the above in the east. as best i remember only mike miller missed significant time for orlando and harrington for indy. also, you say the magic only has 1 star player and somehow plays better than us? where is this stable of stars we are wasting. the only one on our team is steve and he isn't as good as mcgrady, hell almost no one is. and i'm not sure how much better you think the rest of our team is versus the rest of the magic. i would take cuttino over any of them but then miller and armstrong and probably someone i can't think of would come next from the magic. so if you wanna say uptempo is more fun, go ahead, just don't automatically equate it with quality or assume it is the primary reason for quality (ie dallas).

edit: i forgot to add, yes we don't run near enough for me and don't have the world's greatest offense and can be quite boring, but don't say it is the only reason we lose. there are tradeoffs in any style you choose.

Lee big cheese is full of it... Fran and him belong together they should just get married and suck each others faces together... okay that's got to be the worst visual of the year... but just get off this board le big sh$t... or at least quit pretending to be a Rockets fan... I'd rather read Nugzfan's post who doesn't pretend to be anything but a nuggets fan... No true Rockets fan would watch the whole of any other game while the rockets are playing on another channel... You're just a troll or Fran's momma or both... Get off this board and go back from whence you came...

I wouldn't be surprised if Fran has already written something entitled: "Hakeem Gets a Taste Past Glory" or something else stupid like that He's just waiting for Hakeem to have his "big game" with the Raptors, so he can print it. And it'll probably something like a 13 point-2block night, but that won't matter to Frannie. He'll also be sure to include something like, "The way Hakeem helped the Raptors last night, gives an undeiniable insight in what could have been had the Rockets organization treated Hakeem like the true champion he is, rather than a vicious leader for al-qaida."

Unfortuantely there's quite possibly only one more Raptors game left. And with the way Hakeem is being used by the Raptors, that "big night" is most likely not going to happen. But, I'm sure he'll just find some other way to mention Hakeem while at the same time bashing the Rockets. You can count on it.

Somebody on the Rockets staff must have really pissed off Fran to have him acting like this. I've never seen such negativity in a journalist before. I hope he never plans on getting any Rocket interviews ever again because he should be done as a Rockets journalist, and the whole Rockets organization should treat him as an outcast.

    Look,

If Rudy and staff would be doing their job, Fran would have nothing to complain about.

I think he is HELPING the situation, since no one on the Rockets staff has the sack to tell it like it is, at least Fran does.

I feel the same way as Fran which motivated me to start another thread.

All we want to do is to highlight to CD and Co that the system is part of the problem. I am sure with our existing roster, without Odom or this "impact player", Nellie could get at least 85% of the performance that Dallas is showing right now. All of our forwards have range and can handle the ball and we have as many three point shooters. You think in one year Nellie cannot get OT to do what Finley is doing? The difference between the two teams is not talent, it is mindset, attitude and the system.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Basketball is entertainment and if Les, CD and Rudy continue to see that the media and mass is not entertained by this "style" of playing - maybe...just maybe - a change will come.

Fran is an idiot, but the Rockets do suck. Even with Francis in the lineup, they have to be one of the WORSE TEAMS to watch in the league. Not the least talented, the most borring team to watch. If those (and other similar articles) light a fire under Les's ass to demand change, with CD & Rudy (ISOs, 3 guard, no fast break, no defense, no ball movement, trading our future for over the hill players), then more power to Fran!! But he is still an idiot!!!

I can understand putting a little heat on the Rocks, feeling the need to speak for the 'average' Houstonian.

But its like Fran went out and bought some dirt to kick on the Rockets.

    ENOUGH!

forgot the comment about the Rockets. The rest of the column once again proves to me that Fran does not like basketball and does not watch it much.

When Fran says that Dallas is "really a throwback to the past, before the days of the mind-numbing isolation play and the stultifying look of spacing around the 3-point line simply to launch more bombs" does anyone else think: (1) that is a statement for last year before the rules change as none of the top 8 teams in the league do this, even Utah has revamped their plodding 4th Q PnR, rinse and repeat, (2) that's really a lame, delusory, and transparent lead-in to critique the Rockets, (3) it is an insult to Dirk Nowitzki to say that the league has ever seen a 7er play like him, and (4) that the only thing that is really a throwback is Dallas plays no defense just like in the 70's.

Fran, Dallas is great, fun and everything, but they have to play that way...they have run and gun. They can't let Minn score 50% like last night and expect to win the title.

Further, explain to me what is wrong with the Kings game, the Nets, Utahs revamped and more motion game, and who else but you says Lakers are plodding. If anything, the Lakers are playing exactly the way you should with someone like Shaq, to play another way is stupid. Seattle is totally changed with Barry and Payton in synch as duel playmakers. Portland shows great team ball. Minn and Garnett play offense the way it should be played. and so does San Antonio and Tim Duncan. Are you really saying the Dirk Nowitzki is more a throwback type player than Tim, Kevin, Webber (Mr. 5 apg), Pippen, Kidd, Shaq vs Wilt, Payton/Barry.

Do you watch basketball Fran, or only enough to find something to bash about the game and to pour that onto the Rockets.

The NBA ROX! right now. Much better than the 70s...are you frigging JOKING!! So you must also like wide open football passing games that can't play defense. You sound like an AFC football fan in the 80s. Yeah, those San Diego Chargers with Dan Fouts sure could light it up.

Good post, heypartner, especially about the current state of the NBA. IMHO, this has been one of the best seasons in the past 10 years.

I love the variety in the league right now.
