Islam group urges forest fire jihad Josh Gordon September 7, 2008 - 12:00AM AUSTRALIA has been singled out as a target for "forest jihad" by a group of Islamic extremists urging Muslims to deliberately light bushfires as a weapon of terror. US intelligence channels earlier this year identified a website calling on Muslims in Australia, the US, Europe and Russia to "start forest fires", claiming "scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands". The website, posted by a group called the Al-Ikhlas Islamic Network, argues in Arabic that lighting fires is an effective form of terrorism justified in Islamic law under the "eye for an eye" doctrine. The posting — which instructs jihadis to remember "forest jihad" in summer months — says fires cause economic damage and pollution, tie up security agencies and can take months to extinguish so that "this terror will haunt them for an extended period of time". "Imagine if, after all the losses caused by such an event, a jihadist organisation were to claim responsibility for the forest fires," the website says. "You can hardly begin to imagine the level of fear that would take hold of people in the United States, in Europe, in Russia and in Australia." With the nation heading into another hot, dry summer, Australian intelligence agencies are treating the possibility that bushfires could be used as a weapon of terrorism as a serious concern. Attorney-General Robert McClelland said the Federal Government remained "vigilant against such threats", warning that anyone caught lighting a fire as a weapon of terror would feel the wrath of anti-terror laws. "Any information that suggests a threat to Australia's interests is investigated by relevant agencies as appropriate," Mr McClelland said. Adam Dolnik, director of research at the University of Wollongong's Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention, said that bushfires (unlike suicide bombing) were generally not considered a glorious type of attack by jihadis, in keeping with a recent decline in the sophistication of terrorist operations. "With attacks like bushfires, yes, it would be easy. It would be very damaging and we do see a decreasing sophistication as a part of terrorist attacks," Dr Dolnik said. "In recent years, there have been quite a few attacks averted and it has become more and more difficult for groups to do something effective." Dr Dolnik said he had observed an increase in traffic on jihadi websites calling for a simplification of terrorist attacks because the more complex operations had been failing. But starting bushfires was still often regarded as less effective than other operations because governments could easily deny terrorism as the cause. The internet posting by the little-known group claimed the idea of forest fires had been attributed to imprisoned Al Qaeda leader Abu Musab Al-Suri. It said Al-Suri had urged terrorists to use sulphuric acid and petrol to start forest fires. http://www.theage.com.au/national/islam-group-urges-forest-fire-jihad-20080906-4b53.html?page=-1
Seems easy to accomplish and effective. They should be content with causing lots of damage and not getting credit.
It's usually much harder to set a forest on fire then you would think, However with conditions like they have over there (or when we have situations like the Santa Ana winds cranking at a high speed), it becomes a little easier.
Sorry to steal some of your thunder with my thread Uprising. If its any consolation I get the feeling your thread will get moved to D & D.
This article posted reminds me alot about this great video: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q_OIXfkXEj0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q_OIXfkXEj0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I always wondered, given that in all likelihood the percentage of muslims that are outwardly violent (i.e. terrorists) is small and that it's considered to be a religion of peace, do any of the non-violent muslims take serious steps to curb the violent ones? I mean not all of them can be terrorists, but do the ones who aren't do anything to stop the ones who are?
They should be content? Not getting credit? You're missing their intent. They WANT credit. They want to spread fear. If they do it and don't get credit, they don't get recognized as disgruntled arsewipes who want something and intend to get it through spreading destruction, fear and dismay. Yes, sadly, I think they'd be glad at the damage they caused, but I also think that isn't really enough for such twisted individuals who would seek what they want through destruction and death of innocents instead of any type of diplomacy.
I assume they know about it but do nothing because there must be something in their religion against betraying fellow muslims.
some people say that islam is a religion of peace but how can that be when their prophet Muhammed is a know pedophile and mass murderer. In fact Muhammed can be considered the first islamic terrorist. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XQ5yycE44qU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XQ5yycE44qU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
This is like meeting somebody from India and saying, "Hey I know someone else in India so when you go back there can you say hi to them." The amount of terrorist muslims is such a ridiculously small portion of the population that its not like your average muslim is going to likely know who is a terrorist and its also not like a terrrorist muslim is going around telling every other Muslim that he is going to be a suicide bomber. This subject has come up several times before and it has been pointed out that there have been many Muslims who have spoken out against terrorism, many Muslims that have worked with authorities of various countries to combat terrorism and even many Muslims who are in the police, military and intelligence services to combat terrorism.
This is just ridiculous news. I'm assuming that is why the link now leads to, "Sorry your page was not found..." People just trying to blame Muslims for everything. The California fires last year, which were devestating, were found to have been started by a non muslim arsonist. Are non muslims now trying to do "fire jihad" against America? http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/02/09/australia.wildfires.survivor/index.html Yeah, I can totally see it now in a few days: Muslim Group Urges "Water Jihad" Retarted...
