Well, I'm glad you got the right Korea this time. And again, Korea and Iraq are two different things. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here, but I'm certain it's a bad one.

Most of the members here against continuing the occupation and war in Iraq by the US want a continued presence close to the country, if not in it... certainly in the region. It is in our strategic interest and we had that presence before the Gulf War and after it, prior to Bush's mad adventure (my description) in Iraq. Frankly, I will be stunned if we see a viable Iraqi government anytime in the next few years, if ever. Our best hope would be bases in Kurdistan, which our vital ally, Turkey, doesn't want at all. I see no evidence of any Iraqi government on the horizon that would want our continued presence there. We've broken the country and we can't afford to stick around with the bulk of our ground forces stuck there, unavailable should an emergency arise elsewhere, costing hundreds of billions a year, and costing us not only the lives of our superb fighting men and women, but a fortune in long term care costs for those maimed physically and mentally during this conflict, however long it lasts. Bush is unwilling and unable to fight for the money needed to properly fund the VA. He is too interested in cutting taxes and keeping taxes low while we fight two wars. I have never read a post by you seriously addressing that. Or the fact that Bush ignored increasing the size of the military when high ranking officers were calling for it, members of Congress from both parties were calling for it. Only when it was shoved in his face by events did he decide to support the idea. Years too late for the present situation faced in Iraq, not to mention Afghanistan, where we have had force levels too low to maintain the gains we saw earlier there and see things falling into chaos. a majority of americans want our troops home from iraq. a majority of the troops want the troops home from iraq. if that is "rim-man's" position i dont think he is advocating an unpopular one. it is you and your precious bush who are advocating for policies which most of us dont want.
not only that, but one might argue that the bush administration actually facilitated the attacks with things like their visa express program, which was introduced in may 2001. it allowed saudis to get a visa through their travel agent rather than a consulate. several of the hijackers used this to gain entry into the u.s.
I think basso would like to take back that post. equating iraq today to japan and germany today is reaching an all time low, even for him. I didn't know we were still maintaing demcoracy in germany.
