I asked this question over at Spurs Report/WOAI, and they said the Spurs home games on TNT last season WERE NOT blacked out in the San Antonio area. Houstonians have nothing to worry about. you will see the first game.
When I ordered League Pass in Austin, they said "You will get up to 40 games a week except Spurs games will be blacked out since they show them locally." And I remembered saying to myself, "Who gives a crap?" Got a little off track, I don't remember games being blacked out on TNT or 51, I remember switching between the two channels watching the game.
I would just like to chime in (for the 184th time) that the NBA's blackout rules are ABSURD! Especially the rules that blackout games in Austin. The Rockets aren't losing any tickets sales due to people staying hom IN AUSTIN and watching the game on television. Also.... more power to you Jeff. That really sucks.
The NBA does not blackout the way the NFL does. The blackout rules are in place for the networks and there broadcasts because they take the lead as scheduled by the NBA. Every Rocket game is on TV. It may be on TNT or ESPN or 51 but it is on. There are no 'home blackout rules.' The blackout rules across the state are due to Fox Sports Net and their proximity 'guidelines' not the Rockets. FSN believes that people in Beaumont would rather see the Spurs than the Rockets. The Rockets have never 'blacked out' a game.
Even when you purchase the NBA League Pass in Austin some of the games that are nationally televised on TNT get blacked out. You also get to hear Houston commentators about twice a year on League Pass due to some NBA rule I'm sure.
that's not right. I've had League Pass up here in Austin the last two years and every TNT and ESPN game has been shown.
Last year is the only time I can remember only hearing Bill and Calvin about twice in the whole year. Few things are worse than having to listen to the other teams homers during games. I think that situation was due to Ch 51 not being carried on satalite. Now that 51 is carried on satalite I expect to start seeign the Rockets broadcast on much more regular basis.
If this is the case, the Rocks betta find some way to make the telecast available b/c there are gonna be alotta people in H-town that r gonna be pissed if they can't see the game. Ill be at a sports bar anyway so it dont matta to me.......
It has to be shown on TNT, because it is the only channel available. I don't think the Toyota Center can hold 4 Million people. Just like the post earlier, it is the only channel available, so it has to be shown.
Yeah...too bad too sad that many of the 4 million people still think the Rockets suck! :/ They are more interested in the Texans or Astros...which isn't bad! Rockets must prove they can win and succeed! Make it to the playoffs...hopefully people will start believing again. It's good that the season opener is sold out at least! I don't think it will be blacked out on BOTH channels...it better not be!
Let's all say it again ... ALL games will be available locally. When TNT has a game, there is NO local blackout rule. Games that are TNT exclusives will be shown on TNT right here in Houston, just like they'll be shown on TNT in the rest of the country.
I may be wrong about the specific games that were blacked out, but I am positive that I was not able to watch all of the games in Austin last year on league pass, and I was told when I ordered yesterday for this year that Austin is subject to blackout on Mavericks and Spurs games.
All games will be televised on KNWS, as long as ABC doesnt broadcast them. Sort of like NBC. All games will be televised except the ones that are shown on ABC.
