I was looking at the first regular season game today and noticed it is on TNT but it is a local game. If I remember correctly, all Thursday night NBA games will be broadcast on TNS (according to the new TV deal) and, if it is local, it is blacked out. That means the home opener cannot be televised on a local station - 51 - and the TNT broadcast will be blocked out to everyone in Houston because the game is being played here. Is that correct? Will the first game of the new season with the new uni's in a brand new arena seriously be unavailable to local TV viewers???
LOL! Now if that's true, talk about a tragedy... wow. Get ready for about 20,000 folks in the chat room.
I think you are right Jeff. I believe its going to be the same as last year, TNT as exclusive rights to air 2 games on Thursday nights, plus I saw in one of these Ch.51 threads that Tim mentioned they will only show games on Ch. 51 also if its an ESPN only, cause TNT and ABC have exclusive rights to show their games. Kinda like the Dallas game in Nov. last year, I think that was the only games they had the Rockets on TNT (plus the Tuesday game vs. LAL in March, but thats a special game and Turner trying to cash in ratings for Shaq vs. Yao). Either way, I am going to the game
I guess its possible this year but I remember watching the a Rocket's home game on TNT last season. I live in the Houston area and it wasn't blacked out. (It was the Shaq/Yao matchup). I watched the TNT broadcast live and then the channel 51 replay at midnight.
TNT - typo. Homer's leaflet: Come to The Simpson's BBBQ. The extra B is for BYOBB. Bart: (Pointing at BYOBB) What's that extra B for? Homer: That's a typo
I just emailed Rich and Charlie (610) about this. They should know and Charlie is pretty good about replying. I'm listening while I work, so if they mention anything, I'll post what they say. This would suck if it is true. Hell, if someone else can, call the show and ask. I would but I'm at work.
no problems here...i share a satellite account with my brother in california, and i get local LA channels on my receiver. so ill be able to watch it on the "california tnt." the company thinks my receiver is in california somewhere in my brothers house.
Thanks Jeff... duh.. It might even be a better idea toemail Tim. He said in the other thread that all games would be on TV here in Houston this year. Seems to me like a mixup or crossed communication...either way..he should be able to get answers.
i think if it is televised on channel 51 than it will be balcout on tnt but if chanel 51 does not show the game than TNT will show it that my opinion
Jeff, I dont think that is right. since TNT has exclusive coverage on Thursdays, then that means , channel 51 can't show the game. so why would TNT's version be blacked out out in Houston, since they have no competition. I would think David Barron would have been over this already.
No edit..so the only reason Rockets home games on TNT were blacked out in the Houston Area in the past was because the Rockets local feed was showing the game as well. If TNT is the sole provider, then it can't be blacked out no matter if the games is home or away. If all the games will be on 51 like Tim said they would, then the TNT version will be blacked out. But Houstonians will still be able to watch the game.
Not really. The Dec. 13th game is on NBATV, Feb 9th is on TNT. At least one of Dec 11th or Feb 24 will be on FSSW.
