Rocketbooster that was just a stupid thing to say.

Australia is a country made of of people from every nation on Earth. We dont judge people by their colour or religion, we judge them by their character.Something the Us basketball team lacked.

So next time keep you stupid comments to yourself.

Who's gonna tell him that there are Aborigines that were cheered by the Australian crowds? Who was that doing the Olympic torch lighting? Hmm... [IMG]

I just said what the rest of your blind asses are afraid to see. Don't be such chicken ****s. Why get so defensive? Take it think about out and look at it out side of that rosy colored cubicle of yours. You know, say to yourself, yes sure, you know thats one way of looking at it, it certainly could of played a factor for the hostility against the Americans.

I'm not here to critcize. but Americans are very very respectful people. We've dealt with racism and have come a long way. I don't see the same things here.
    -Kevin Garnett

    Unfortunately, my point rings true.

My cubicle is nice and GRAY, thank you. [IMG]

And just because somebody thinks so, doesn't make it so. I get sick of people screaming "racism" when something doesn't go their way. Next time you quote Kevin Garnett, find out what caused him to say what he did... was it because they booed him? Oh waa. I can quote several yayhoos in history that said something but it doesn't mean anything they said "rang true".

And for every person that says Americans are a very respectful group of people, I'm sure you can find a few Americans that say otherwise. What does it prove? Nothin'.

You still haven't responded to me about why players like Magic and Michael weren't hated for their color. Where they just not black enough for people to hate 'em or was there some other odd-ball reason?

    [HeyPud Maniac Mode Level 3]
I still say your remark was boneheaded.

I agree Jet. But not your extrapolation in the other thread that assumes the NBA must be losing fundamentals and teamwork.

BTW: what does this have to do with cc.net not rocking anymore.

Yet another reason why professionals should not be allowed in the Olympics. I don't care if we were getting beaten before. This is much more embarrassing.

excuse my naivete...I can't find the Carter quotes anywhere. Could someone tell me what the fuss is?

I watched like two Olympic events (that first weedend 4x100 Aussie win was enough for the whole games for me), only a Johnson/Greene 200 could have compared.

I do think the Garnett quote above using "racism" is not a US embarrassment in any context. But as DoD says, I'd still like to hear the full context.

Hey DoDly, so was "Maniac Mode" cathartic at all. That was a rather toned down use of it..."boneheaded". sheesh. Trying casting an Apocolypse on one of those squeaky, fluttering bats sometime,,,it feels so good.

I think this is a very interesting post and Screamingrocketjet has brought up some good points, but in the 1st post You(SRJet) said that the US has gone from a revered country to one that is laughed at. My question would be why are all these countries laughing at us when we still have more medals than the rest of the world? Just because one player acts like a complete moron does not mean that it is indicative of all US athletes competing in the Olympics, the majority of US Olympians work just as hard as other nations Olympians do, so don't get carried away because of one primadonna.

Man, this is going to become a thread in itself...

    OK, PC HP!

Rather than make a long rant out of this right now, go back and read the last 2 sentences of your post.

    Accusations and assumptions were made.

    Nothing was heard.

What two sentences of mine...in this thread? Doesn't really matter though, because I'm trying to look past Rocketboosters destructive post. I believe he has something constructive to say.

But boy, he now has less chance to say it than fatty fat fat did telling non-smokers to get over it.

I think at the heart of what he is saying stems from comments he's heard over and over about black basketball players--street ball etc. And I can certainly vouche for hearing bigoted statements over and over again. Rocketbooster just went into loud mode cause he doesn't want people to ignore such stuff anymore.

These racial conversations are tough, especially when started so loudly, but I feel compelled to work through them. No PC from me...no accussation. I just want to talk. Why is it that the NBA players and league get bashed more than our other sports? First off, do you think even that statement is true.

Rocketbooster's post is so stupid that agreeing with it or trying to find anything constructive in it is even more stupid. Neither Rocketbooster nor HP addressed the point why all the black track and field athletes, boxers, or the 92 dream team with a lot of black players were loved. I will tell you: Because they were not acting like a bunch of arrogant, immature idiots. It has NOTHING to do with color.

Det, I can't get divisive with you here, and I can't support rocketboosters post.

Can you talk without referring to the specifics of his posts again? You guys have crushed that post. Are we ending the discussion here? Or do you want to hear some of my experiences with American bigots regarding NBA players, and even those '92 Olympians?

This is why these race conversations are so hard. They get divisive so quickly. That is what is unconstructive. Venting is useless sometime, but can be very constructive.

Det and Pimp, end the conversation if you choose to. I'll bow out. But I can make this constructive, if you want to hear some experiences of mine consistent with Rocketbooster's sentiments.

HP, no offense, but RB didn't start a conversation, he started and arguement.

If you want to have a constructive discussion that's fine, but don't sugar coat his post into being a constructive statement.

I'll be back to discuss this later.

    2. there were some bad calls(this is just what i think so dont get angry)
    3. Its about time other countries caught up

but still i think that the us is by far the best country in basketball, baseball, football, and the best but not by much in track, swimming(i think in 96 they were by far but im not sure this year)

VJ...I think our Rugby guys beat a team about 100 - 0 who BEAT the USA rugby team.

For a basketball analogy...that's about the equivalent of winning 180 to 10.

I think it's fair to say we'd win 'comfortably' in Rugby v. the USA ;-)

but i could see nfl players going out and just excelling at rugby. imagine edgerrin James(sp?) and other running backs just running through defenses and have huge 350 pound defensive line players on defense and NO PADS. I think it would be interesting to see the nfl players practice rugby for a little while and see how they would do. i could see them placing somewhere in the top 5,6, or 7. jet do you think this is possible or am i just crazy?hehe. i dont know too much about rugby because like you said its a minority sport here, but ive played a couple times and it reminds me of football.
